I actually like the SB, but I have to say, this is the first time a single fan has gotten me to dislike a program with their pioused self righteousness. Do I agree with Liberty on everything, no. Still, I rather support their rights to their views as I do for all in this country. I know I hope for Liberty success as a schadenfreude for such intolerant people. It is just a football team! I now know ne team I hope Liberty will always burn when they play. :)

Would you support a school that said...no blacks? Why is 'no Jews' or 'no Gays' any different?

If you think that its okay for LU to discriminate, because they are entitled to their own views, then should the NCAA be able to pass a bylaw demanding that all athletic jobs and student athlete positions be open to everyone without discrimination and expel those institutions that don't comply? Or is it only anti-Gay discrimination that you think is okay? Seriously, the NCAA would just be setting up their own rules, just like Liberty does.

The pendulum swings both ways my friend. I'd choose my advocacy wisely. Because the shoe can just as easily be on the other foot in a couple of years. And quite frankly, I don't see any reason not to press forward at the NCAA at the opportune time. Every athletic position should be open to all in the NCAA.

For schools contemplating scheduling LU, there are a couple of issues:

1) If you're scheduling a game at LU, what protections are going to be in place for your Transgendered, LGBT, and non-Christian fans and students who might wish to see their team play on the road?

2) if you're simply paying LU to play at your place, are you asking the students and or taxpayers, who do subsidize almost every team playing LU, to pay money to a school that wont hire many of them, simply because they are who they are? That would include religious beliefs, against which LU discriminates openly. I don't think that trying to argue that UMass paying 250,000 to LU for a home game versus 1,000,000 to someone else is going to mollify people who don't want to pay a cent OF THEIR MONEY to LU. Maybe they can pay an equal amount in new funding for LGBT/non-Christian programming/hiring at their schools. Rutgers is also a pretty interesting payor to LU too. BTW, many people aren't going to care that another school agreed to pay LU....they'll be upset that their school did. And there are a lot of stakeholders at all of the schools that could care less if football went away. That is particularly pronounced at UMass.

The first will probably be tested soon. A M to F Transgendered woman will probably attempt to go to a LU game and use the woman room at their stadium.

The second....can cause more problems than just a football game. But really open up the whole question of student and taxpayer subsidies for FBS football. And might result in legislative action that will probably not be helpful to many of our programs.

Either way, scheduling LU opens your institution up for future problems.

ZZZZZzzzzzzz

I'll bet no one even considered that point. All of those contracts entail some sort of monetary compensation to Liberty either for the game or in the event of a breach.

I suppose this will turn on the issue of 'what is a government contractor' etc. But I suspect that if it is legal in Mass and NJ, it won't be for long.
You are really stretching here implying that all these schools that signed agreements with LU to schedule to play FB are all illegal. That's more Trump talk than anything else.

Appears Troy, Wake and Army will be playing at Liberty in the future.

UB is playing them next season..

Which is interesting because Turner Gill's first HC job was with UB.

If LU can generate this much discussion with the announcement of its schedule the games are going to be lots of fun.

He didn't graduate and the student handbook still has polices against it. Still looking for a married Gay student (presumably having sex - just like the straight ones) at the Lynchburg campus.

Not aware of any married Gay person or Jewish person employed as a full time staff member at LU.

Either way, scheduling LU opens your institution up for future problems.

Do you not have anything else to worry about today? Liberals always fight religious institutions unless they happen not to be Christian based. What happens if an Islamic school forces their female athletes to wear a hijab even if they do not want to you?

Also I highly doubt that Liberty is going to discriminate against other religious fans or homosexual fans if they do then I will support you, however from their time in D1 and FCS this has not occurred.

There are a grand total of ZERO openly LGBT football coaches (that includes assistants). There is 1 D1 openly gay AD (an A-10 school). One P5 school has an openly gay Assistant AD.

There are zero openly Gay players on any FBS roster. Out of thousands......zero.

----

There are states that might have laws preventing students or taxpayers having to subsidize the exclusion of LGBT and non-evangelicals from college sports. Mainstreaming LU is the same as saying..... its okay if everyone keeps all the Gays out forever. and they can use taxpayer funds to do it.

Its marginalization, writ large.
