That will not be as easy as some of you think. How many of you on this board can make a significant donation? By significant, I'm not talking about sending them $100 or $250 - those numbers would not make a drop in the bucket. My $20 I could give is meaningless. A $500 donation is nothing. They are looking for BIG donations. $10K, $20K and up. People like us can't do that. Raising a lot of money like that is not as easy as you would think. Raising money is not easy period. Believe me I know.

They will end up relying on the same big donors they always rely on. Chessick. Barsema. etc.

The entire university is in a world of hurt. We scheduled a game for 1.6 million at FSU & took a payment from them just to keep some of the football staff...and now NIU has announced that 150 people will lose their jobs. Sad times at NIU.

I am not usually so down...but things are quite bad in IL these days. :-(

I would argue that any money helps and anyone who has ever fundraised would say the same thing. If you have 20 dollars to donate, they would love it if you did. Imagine if all 200,000 alumni donated 20 bucks. Anything helps. They aren't mincing words when they say this is the most important fund raising initiative in easily the last 10 years and maybe ever in NIU Athletics' long history. With the way things are trending in college athletics we need to upgrade and pay cost of attendance. If not, we all know where that leads. Unless you're looking forward to play Monmouth and Knox every saturday.

Yes, we need our heavy donors more than ever. We need their relationships though. Our alumni base can easily donate $100M. The problem is getting them to do it because they have no pride. We need the heavy hitters to reach out to them and get them on board.

RE: NIU Athletics Launches Campaign to Sustain
a new website was launched this evening for the Campaign To Sustain:

NIUSustain.com

I hope all alumni are getting behind this campaign, it's very crucial to give anything you can. No matter how big or small.

Pretty cool site posted on the main thread:

Every FBS Stadium as shown from Google Earth

It's pretty glaring how far behind NIU is in the stadium department, but the IPF and YC prove that we can compete when it comes to athletic facilities.

Now that the season is officially starting, will that shake loose an actual update on how fundraising/sponsorship is going?

Already picked out my bar in L.A. to watch the BC game, see you all at San Diego State tailgating!!!

GO HUSKIES!

The official Victor E. Huskie Twitter account just tweeted a pic of him in the West lot in a white Nissan truck..."Big things are coming (Nissan) St Charles... #BlackOutBC.

My first impression was stadium naming rights...but really I think that is too big and its maybe more like they will be the title sponsor of the new East side premium club & suites.

Nissan is an "official sponsor" for 100 teams in the country. I doubt it's anything significant. The way it's worded it actually sounds like big things are coming for St Charles and they just popped the Nissan in there as a nod to the Nissan partnership. They'll probably be in St Charles giving away free tickets this weekend or something...maybe at the dealership itself. I hope it's some kind of major deal but I'm not sure they'd ever tease that with a tweet.

After thinking about it I have reset my expectations to guessing that Nissan of St Charles is giving a free vehicle away...likely to a wounded vet.
