RE: The Championship Building Plan Thread
Highlights of the groundbreaking with renderings...looks way different from initial CBP plan!

Scoreboard different. Track still there. But Weatherbee still stated that there are more phases to come in this video:

(Creighton fired up and gameday ready at the 24:00 mark!)

I just don't know what to make of the renderings, because Phase II is pretty much TBD.
I consider them less than rough sketches because we have NO idea of what, when, etc. phase II will be.

Without major funding (donations) I don't see how this project can expand.

Dear masttg,
We don't know what might/could be coming down the road. All I know is that the promotional department is working very hard with future donations, so let's not fret about the immediate future and be happy with what is being accomplished.

Amen!!
Coach Creighton has me fired up. We need him to lead us to bowl elgibility this season. If he does that, plus coupled with the CBP, I believe Creighton will lead EMU to the top of the MAC In football starting with a top 4 recruiting class.

I'm saving a few vacation days for that bowl game. I'm ready to make a trip. Need the team to get me there.

That is Phase II.
If and when Phase II happens the track will be gone and the red cinder replaced by green turf.
This is simply a case of $. If the big bucks were there today the track would be gone.

BTW, I just re-watched the ground breaking. CC was on an Adrenalin rush.

I liked it. Not because I like folks on an Adrenalin rush but how much he likes being an underdog whom others say can't win or can't do this or that.
He is a GREAT fit for EMU.
He would not be a great fit for Alabama, OSU, etc.

Tom that it is concern to be sure. I think, however, the sequence of construction is correct. The scoreboard is crucial to the improved stadium experience and allows for additional ad revenue. Premium indoor seating on the west side of the stadium is already sold out and this building provides additional capacity for such high ticket donors.
I'm a resident of Ann Arbor that is truly committed to the betterment of the county I reside in. As an alumnus of EMU I might be biased but I truly believe that what is good for Ypsilanti is great for Washtenaw county. I realize that we are the little brother to the University 6 miles west, but I think that there has been a gentrification of sorts with respect to college football. The MAC plays entertaining and quality football and when you attend an EMU football game you pay somewhere south of $70 less for a game ticket. You can tailgate at a Stadium distance for free that would cost you another $60 or a membership at A2 Golf and Outing. It is just a great value!
I truly think that there is a bunch of pent up demand in SE Michigan for such a product. We will soon find out if Wetherbee can exploit it.

RE: The Championship Building Plan Thread
Agree, Jerry. We just need a 9 - 3 team.
We have progressed from 2 - 4 W teams to teams which now win say 6 games (+ / - 1).
We need to hit the sweet spot which is probably 9 wins and a bid to the MACC.
A big dance bid in MBB and MACC in FB is what will ignite interest in EMU athletics.

Agree with your points, Jerry.
We just need to sit back about 8 months and see the new building and what effect it has on our FB program, game day experience, recruiting, etc.
It will be a dynamic building with a really nice scoreboard and a lot of amenities inside for athletes and others.
I'll play "Nervous Nellie" - maybe we have crazy wind swirls driving our kickers crazy. With big buildings in the two end zones who knows what the winds swirls will be like...
Maybe...

RE: The Championship Building Plan Thread
BTW, I'm a little surprised by the fund raising.
There was a silent phase for known donors, most big, but some small.
I know there are bricks, but I'm wondering why they aren't trying to get more donors to pony up say 5 - 10K over 5 years.
500 donors x 10K = 5M bucks or 1,000 donors x 5K also = 5M.
Those kind of bucks would essentially pay for Phase I.

Wetherbee interview on WEMU about the Championship Building Plan. Lots of good info.
Yes, that was informative. I wish they would post weekly time lapse photos of the building progress for those of you that don't live locally.

Indeed. Must listen. Discusses everything including the IPF (which is getting long on the tooth).
BTW, apparently the 6M gift which was withdrawn may not be dead. Apparently they haven't given up hope. The gift was pledged while Heather was AD.
