RE: Pittsburgh's Basketball Roster
I see Rozelle Nix has announced he will be a grad transfer. He played so infrequently I don't know if you call this a loss at all, other than in the experience department. It is stunning though, as you rarely see near complete roster turnover from one season to the next.
I haven't kept up with who Pitt is bringing in, so Panther fans can contribute there. I believe these are the only returning scholarship players at this time.

And now I have to despise every fiber of his being.
Here's a twist. Cam Johnson just announced his decision to go to North Carolina as a graduate transfer with two years eligibility remaining. That could set off some ugly intra-league conflict.

Glad to see him land anywhere but UK! As always, UK brought in a highly rated freshman class. This coming season however, they will not have experienced upperclassmen in the #5-10 range of their rotation. That will make a difference.

As College Card already said, this is good news. If only I could channel my internet message board opinion for higher purposes. But saving Cam's soul is still a nice victory
Good luck to the young man.

RE: Pittsburgh's Basketball Roster
Pitt is asserting that it has the right to block Johnson from playing immediately, requiring him to sit a year. The NCAA says there is no reason why a graduate transfer can't play immediately. It may come down to what the conference says. I'm not sure if there is already a league policy in place on this issue or if Pitt wants them to set a precedent in this case.
There could be some hard feelings over this.

RE: Pittsburgh's Basketball Roster
Just as a point of clarification, Pitt is NOT at odds with the NCAA. Rather, Pitt is interpreting the rule as it applies in this case one way whereas North Carolina/Johnson are interpreting it another way. They have each appealed to the NCAA for a ruling. I don't think this is going to come down to the ACC overruling the NCAA.
For the record, based on what I know now, I think Pitt should allow Johnson to transfer anywhere he chooses. Just as a matter of philosophy, I just hate what the NCAA does to it's student-athletes. Also, it is not Johnson's fault that Stallings came in and intentionally blew up Pitt's roster and he shouldn't have to essentially sacrifice the final two years of his collegiate career while the program rebuilds the itself from the ground up. I think everyone familiar with the program well understands that Pitt basketball is going to be really, really bad for the next few years while they untangle this mangled knot.
That said, I also believe that the ACC should have a rule prohibiting intra-conference transfers. I think allowing them creates a potentially negative environment for all concerned.
Well, let me clarify that last point. I think student-athletes should be able to transfer anywhere they like for whatever reasons they choose. However, if they are not going to open it up fully, I think the ACC should have rules that create a system of harmony and trust amongst each other and allowing good players to transfer inside the league obviously does not further that objective.

I should also say that I fully expect to see Johnson in Carolina Blue this October.

I believe that kids should have the option to transfer just like coaches, AD's are able to move as they please. Restrictions should be placed only on undergrads & I would only limit it to in conference schools. Graduates have IMO fulfilled their contract to the University & therefore should be freeagents to shop their services as they see fit.

Maybe they could work out a trade. Two JV players for Cam?

Seriously, North Carolina's walk-ons would probably be better than what Pitt has for next year.

BTW, Pitt is going to release Johnson. I don't know if they've announced it publicly yet but you can bank on it.

It has been reported here within the past hour as a done deal in the local media, citing an AP reporter.
