I'm sure whoever would have paid the bill for them to go as "East High School" would still do the same.
Maybe they could all wear masks too. I can hear the introductions now,
Starting at PG, The AL Express
at SG, El Balancesto Dios
at SF, El pelicula desticada humana
at PF and C, from parts unknown, Assassin I and Assassin 2
They have a rule that after the TSSAA season a summer or AAU team is supposed to have only 3 players from a HS team. This prevents HS coaches playing their teams tegether year around.
Those rules don't apply to schools from other states?
It varies state to state
Plus some of these teams aren't recognized by their state associations
Like Hamilton Heights
Isn't that the team that drilled East earlier this season?

RE: TSSAA screwed over East
The State of MS did the same thing to Olive Branch (Girls) and Callaway (Boys) 2 years ago. That Callaway team was headlined by Malik Newman. MS ruled against them even after the Governor made a phone call to the HS Association on behalf of the schools to plead support.
In my opinion, the argument on here and given on behalf of East about kids missing out on travel experience is flawed. For one, East has already traveled out of the State on two occasions this year. Once in GA and once in Missouri. Furthermore, East has a team made up of high level AAU players. These kids travel all over the country for AAU during the late spring and summer. Between the EYBL and UA Circuit, these kids hit LA, NY, ATL, CHI, etc. Additionally, there are a number of events (and they seem to grow each year) of big HS tournaments each season that will invite teams to come to a certain city or cities and play a certain number of games at little to no expense. ECS, Lausanne, Ridgeway are just 3 schools that come to mind of recent teams to do this.
I think there case was weekend by the decision of Riverdale HS (Girls) to not seek the exemption as well. They finished undefeated and I believe ranked #1 in the country by at least 1 publication.
Lastly, I think the race argument is misguided. I think two other arguments would be far more likely.
1) Simply being from Memphis would suffice. Add in Memphis' success in basketball and its likely the rest of the state would snub a team here.
2) The perception of recruiting/stacking a team. This is in no way an accusation, but with the number of high profile kids that have made their way to East since Penny has been there, there is a perception across the state as well as locally in some circles that there is below board stuff happening.

I've heard from a few that this was TSSAA trump card against that accusation.
