Or not.

Given that he is a BE fan, I thought Quo would be doing handsprings over Xavier...

I was happy, but sheesh, losing Villanova, that hurts because they were the one with a chance to really go deep. Neither X nor Butler will be around next weekend.

If you're not a B1G team, you don't want to play Wisconsin unless it's an actual championship game. They never win those, but before then they can knock off anyone.

I used to see this happen to Big East teams for much of the 1990s, a decade when the conference slumped. Like UVA, the Big East was a very defense-oriented league, and that served them well in the regular season. But when you advance in the tournament, you are almost by definition playing "hot" teams, and if you can't score, you run the risk of being bombed out by a team with a hot shooting hand. That's because hoops is fundamentally an offense-oriented game. There is only so much you are allowed to do on defense, e.g., you can't tackle an opposing player who has the ball, like you can in football.

Also, there is a referee effect: Within the ACC, UVA has established their physical style, and they and the ACC refs have mutually adjusted to that style. But in the NCAA tournament, you're playing with unfamiliar refs, who might not be as sympathetic to that kind of style. So you get hit with calls you don't get hit with in conference play. In the 90s Big East teams felt the same effect: Big East had established itself as a physical league so within the conference, Big East refs "let them play", but then in the NCAA non-Big East refs would call the game tighter and Big East teams would rack up fouls for stuff that wouldn't get called in conference play. That's a problem with developing a style that is too closely tied to your conference.

I think that's right.

Back in the day (perhaps around the time they joined?) I think Ark and SC were basketball powers? Maybe I'm just imagining that.

Louisville, Kansas, and Kentucky all have potentially tricky games!

I think Minnesota suffered some of that vs MTSU.

But even in in BT regular season play, everyone knew that if Lynch and Murphy got in foul trouble, then Minnesota was in a very tough position.

Michigan rallies to beat Louisville! WOW!

ACC in free-fall right now. After all the fanfare of all those bids, looks like it will boil down to Duke and Carolina again. The more things change ...

B1G running rampant now!

Conferences don't win championships, teams do(Except when it comes to the SEC, who's two schools assigned to the Greenville pod will root for each other tonight. Unlike the two ACC schools assigned to the pod).

ACC appears overrated this year...I think UNC is a good bet for the F4. Duke is kinda flaky....we'll see.

Well, based on what I've seen so far ... Kansas is the front runner for the natty.

Of course there are teams yet to play.

Well, I was half right. The Heels move on, but the Blue Devils do not.

South Carolina ousts Duke !!!!

ACC translates 9 bids into exactly one Sweet 16 berth, and they came within an eyelash of not having even North Carolina make it.

And that remains true even if UNC wins it all.

I was disappointed that we lost to South Carolina on Friday night. Now I don't feel as bad. South Carolina is peaking and they are hitting their stride at the right time. They will be a tough out if they continue this hot stretch.

Nah. You should feel bad. So should Duke. A Brad Brownell coached Clemson beat them in Columbia.

AAC's UConn National title is now farther in rear view mirror with Cincy getting ousted. Not even Wichita St will save the former Big East schools from the downward spiral in basketball.
Have to believe that UConn maybe be wanting to leave....especially with the Big East getting 7 bids and tourney wins that adds another million on top of the TV pay out.

The ACC is experiencing what the SEC does in football: All the wannabes are constantly gunning for it and sometimes, just sometimes--- the wannabes win some. No biggie. Next season will be here before you know it.....

Or the rest of us that are not ACC slobber knocker's could see that the league is vastly overrated

It was a travesty that Syracuse was even considered for that large birth there should've been seven max from the ACC and they were way over seeded

And if not for some crooked Refs UNC would've been out as well
