Wales and Cornwall aren't joining that, but good luck to 'em.

how?

Make whichever decision you wish--as long as we agree.

Many on here supported the idea of Scottish Independence, and Brexit. That's ideological consistency--self determination.

Yep. Scotland should leave if the people decide that is their best course moving forward.

Does Ireland?

To add, there are Scottish in the British Military and I'd assume they become Scottish military the minute independence is passed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Re...f_Scotland

Scotland's largest employment hub is the British naval base. If they leave, it will be very expensive to maintain that. If the numbers work out for them and they are willing to cut government benefits, they should go for it.

Why are they calling this "independence" when they really just want to be in the EU?

I will be in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in June.

It will be interesting to see if Scottish independence and Irish unity are given great momentum by Brexit.

#Law of Unintended Consequences

I saw in the Republic in 2015. Peace has never been stronger there. I think there is a strong desire for unification, but depends on how the North feels. I can see Brexit being the push needed. Ireland has benefited from EU membership and the North may want to stay a member. I haven't seen any desire to became a nation with Scotland or Wales however.

Wales wants to be with England as much as England does.

Quote:Nato's secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg has said an independent Scotland would "not automatically" become a member of the military alliance.

Speaking in Brussels after Nicola Sturgeon announced plans to hold a second independence referendum, he said Scotland voting to leave the UK would mean it also had to leave the defence bloc.

Mr Stoltenberg said an independent Scotland would have to gain the approval of all 28 allies before it could re-join as a new country.

"If it happens, then the UK will continue as a member of Nato but a new independent state has to apply for membership and then it is up to 28 allies to decide whether we have a new member," he told Sky News.

"All decisions in Nato are taken by consensus, so we need the consensus of all allies.

"By leaving the UK it will also be leaving Nato, but of course it is possible to apply for membership and then the allies would then decide whether the independent state would become a member of Nato."

However, Scotland would face the prospect of having its entry to the bloc challenged by Spain, which is wary of encouraging break-away states as it faces similar calls for independence in Catalonia.

Are you referring to Greater London or the City of London?

If you are specifically referring to the City, there is some support for it being designated an International City as it is arguably the single most important financial center in the world.

Union of Craic is a small movement.

RE: Scottish independence: Nicola Sturgeon to seek second referendum
This is unsurprising and will create all sorts of headaches for the Tories. I know lots of remain voters in Scotland who are seriously considering changing their votes.

And its not just Scotland. Watch out for serious issues in Northern Ireland too. Brexit will cause issues with the Good Friday accords. The overwhelming majority of Irish persons in the six counties are very pro-Europe. The Ultermen are somewhat in favor of Brexit. Basically, half of Belfast plus Antrim are pro-Brexit. The rest is really really opposed to Brexit. This could cause issues too. Especially since its likely that NI will be ruled directly from Westminister, rather than from Stormont if the next snap election confirms no local government coalition. Attitudes are hardening again in the North. Reinstituting border controls might inflame things. Although another solution might be to simply confer Irish citizenship on Irish residents of the United Kingdom. The Republic is considering allowing Irishmen in Ulster to vote in Republic of Ireland elections.

See I mean grammar wise you're right but I just think could is how the saying goes. I've always questioned myself regardless of which way I say it.

Five years later, and the “second referendum” still hasn’t happened. 2025 is probably the earliest it could happen, and even that is dicey.

Scotland independence? Seriously? Population 5 million GDP $205 Billion. All of this looks like a recipe for insignificant on the world stage and as far as trading goes as well.

Let's compare Texas population 29 Million GDP $2 Trillion

My wife and I are mostly Scottish decent but there is an old adage and that is there is safety in numbers. These numbers are enough to make me think twice in an ever unstable world to go it alone. Might as well be a Ukraine or Poland and have to beg others for help and safety. NO THANKS. Any short term gains will be erased by overwhelming costs of trying to maintain your social system and a standing army and navy and the technological costs associated with them.
