Kent State vs. Akron (MAC Championship)
Go Flashes!
KSU will have to dig deep to find the energy to go 12 rounds with the Zips. I ask this question because I have no idea...
Do you go with Greg Brinda's "they can sleep when their old" theory and forget about minutes played and legs? Or do you start a couple of guys who haven't logged the minutes over the last week and see what you can get out of them for a while? Also, what do you think the team's itinerary looks like for Saturday?
As for scouting Akron. I will defer to Harold Melvin...

Excited for Kent State vs. Akron Round 3.
Impressed with the team's play the past few weeks.
Anyone know the Kent State sections in the Q for the game tomorrow?

Just ask when you purchase tickets. They will tell you and sell accordingly. Remember though, there will be ticket deals....bogo with lottery ticket...freebies if you bring canned food. Check the con_fer_ence website for details.

Do they still do the Mac-n-Cheese deal or am I showing my age?

Watch the Zips fans section on Jaylin's game winner. They react like it was to beat them. Pretty clear they wanted no part of KSU. Time for some tournament revenge.

RE: Kent State vs. Akron (MAC Championship)
Something I've been thinking about over the last week, figured now would be a good time to mention it. Regardless of how tomorrow turns out we should take a step back and appreciate what we have on this team. I know there's been a lot of talk about Jimmy Hall being one of the best players to ever play at Kent, which is very true. When it's all said and done, I believe Jaylin Walker will be right up there with him. So we should consider ourselves lucky to be able to see them play on the same team.
Assuming he stays healthy for the next two years and continues to play well, Walker will likely obliterate Kent's all time 3 point record held by Randal Holt. Through his first two seasons Holt hit 85 threes. Walker is currently at 111. The most Holt ever hit in a season was 89. Walker has 81 this year. If he just repeats how he shot it this year, he'll blow the record away.
Also, Walker could find himself near the most hallowed of records, the all time leading scorer. He's averaged more points per game than Huffman in each of his first two seasons. He's 19 points off Huffman's total through his first two seasons and if he didn't miss time last year, he would probably be ahead of that pace. Even if Walker plateaus after this year and just maintains his current scoring pace (and stays healthy) he would wind up right around 4th on the scoring list. If he continues to progress he has a real shot at the record. Outside of Hall, I can't remember the last Sophomore we've had that averaged over 15 per game.
So basically when it's all said and done, I believe this team will have two players that are littered all over our record books and we should consider ourselves lucky to get to see them play together. Now let's hope we get to see what they can do in an NCAA tournament game.

Great points anti-zip. Win or lose tomorrow this team has really restored the roar to KSU basketball. I know it's easy to say now after winning eight of nine and these three incredible post-season games this week but they really go out there and give you every last ounce they have. Is it Picasso? Is it Kentucky? No. And maybe it shouldn't be. But they never leave the floor with anything else to give. Props to to Rob Senderoff and this staff. Say what you will about him but the guy has totally cleaned this program up. No thugs, bad guys or punks. Just a bunch of guys who go out and grind for you for 40 minutes. That's all I, or any fan could/should ever ask for.
Screw the damn Roo.

I think the MAC N CHEESE may be a thing of the past. But that is one of the first things I looked for this year when the tournament began.
Jaylin Walker has guts on the floor. I don't think missed shots make him think twice. As he learns the game.... look out.

I'm really hoping our legs can hold up. Especially Hall. He was a beast last night.

Same here. The good news is the big guy for Akron played 37 so he can't be too spry.

A friend of mine made a very good "Glass Half-full" observation late in last night's game. Edwin will be well rested. He only played 11 minutes because of foul trouble last night and fouled out after 28 minutes the night before. He really needs to play smart tonight and stay out of foul trouble.

They were at 13-12 after a 20-point loss to Toledo, they went 9-1 after that.

And beat the top 3 seeds twice during that span. That was the ultimate gauntlet run.

The program really needs this - it's been 9 years since the last NCAA trip, and you start losing being 'NCAA potential' in recruits' eyes after that long. I feel great for all the players on the team
