I agree, there are people at fault on that side of the house as well. In either case, his job status shouldn't come up in every single game thread, but it does. To me it is a much more nuanced discussion than any single game result can display.

I agree about being triggered by one game's result to call for a coaches head, and I personally try to shy away from those sort of reactive in the moment proclamations. No one game is going to change my opinion. Winning a big game, winning the conference tournament, etc could start to move the needle for me, but at this time, not much else means a lot in terms of my current opinion. That doen't mean I can't enjoy the season, and enjoy the fun games. Frankly, the WKU home game was the most fun I have had at a basketball in quite a long time even though we lost. It was a reminder to me of what used to be, and what I hope will soon be again.

The path is there.

If he can't get us down it yet again in year 5, we need a new path.

With that said, let's hope we go dancing.

It's ok to talk about your feelings toward Jeff Jones. The question is, When to talk about it? On the eve of the CUSA tournament? Remember there is a long off season, which is probably better suited for discussions like this. Now is the time to show unity for both the coach and the team. Talking about making the NCAA's right now is counter productive. Let's focus on the first game. One game at a time, win and advance!!!!

A little bit of schedule talk in this article...

https://pilotonline.com/sports/columnist.../?88222111

Wolff has been in charge of scheduling the past two seasons – a sore spot with some fans.

Although ODU’s RPI is low for a team with 24 wins, Jones defends the schedule, saying if Richmond, Dayton and VCU had been as good as they usually are, ODU’s RPI would be higher. And not getting ACC schools like Tech is more a product of Power 5 schools declining to play mid-majors on the road.

Next year’s schedule will be more fan friendly and more difficult. VCU, William & Mary and James Madison play here, while the Monarchs play at Richmond, begin a new series with St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia and are in the Virgin Islands for a tournament with Kansas State, Missouri and Oregon State.

Wolff says ODU has one opening left and it’s being held for a game “that would raise our stature.”

I understand this. But at some point we might have to settle for a few P5 road games. We'll always be able to thrown in a MEAC team to help recover.

Let's hope the final team does just that.

It is a catch 22 because if Dayton and Richmond were as good as they usually are, we probably would have lost.

True, but at least we would have been able to settle our at-large chances on the floor (although even if they were good and we had beaten them, I'm not sure that would have been enough. Too much dead weight in the schedule this year).

The credit is given when we make the NCAA tournament. No sooner than that. I dont care that we're better than our pre season prediction I want us to be good enough to get in the damned tournament.

No one is offended you have that opinion; whether they agree with you or not.

yea and the sky is blue, not sure what youre getting at with stating the obvious, as if i have somehow implied that i expect someone to be offended, which i certainly dont

75ish RPI would be great in a down year. Its not that impressive as a high point.

I would love for this to be true, but curiousity got to me.

Using KenPom, which goes back to 2002, we have 17 years worth of data. Our average KenPom ranking is 108. Taking out 2013, would indicate our average ranking is 98. Hard to tell what the years prior would prove, but I'm guessing our average ranking before that time was roughly similar. I think it is safe to say the average ODU team is about the 100th best team in America.

There have been 8 teams out of the 17 that have been below 100 (37, 48, 64, 65, 67, 70, 73). We made the NCAA tourney with rankings of 37 (10), 48 (11), 64 (07), and 73 (05).

The heyday was clearly 2005 to 2011, which saw tourney appearences in 4 out of 7 years. Our average ranking in that time frame was 71.

History would tell us that our average is around 100. Our best years are around 70.

That period burns bright in my memory and it is what I now consider a bench mark of success. BT had demonstrated the ability to coach and recruit at that level. JJ has not, so far.

Huh? History tells us that our best years that you just posted were an average of 55.75.

The average of 05 to 11 was 71. I don't think selecting the average of random years that arent concurrent is valuable.

Been a fan for a long time, but I think most of our recent fans have grown use to this...

And with our resources and our facilities, there is no reason way this shouldn't be the norm. Here's hoping we get there soon.

I think our fans tend to overestimate our "resources and facilities." There are probably 90 teams with better facilities than ours (that number may be smaller now that we have The Mitch.)

Don't get me wrong, The Ted is a GREAT facility, but that accounts for about 20 games per year. Practice facilities, workout facilities, players' lounges, recovery rooms, etc. is what really separates teams in the arms race, and until The Mitch, we were WAY behind.

Dear Jeff,
For the love of Pete, please do your best to beat WKU this time. Here's why. It will maintain the relative order and peace among Monarch Fans for another day. Keep the pitchforks, tiki-torch marches and other strife away from these boards. Please keep winning.

Signed,
Not necessarily a JJ fan, but a Monarch Fan.

I can still blame JJ when we looked clueless AF against their 1-3-1, even though we run it ourselves. Didn't realize that would be possible.

Every team runs it a little differently, but it's no excuse.
