Tourney Week: In CLE
I've repeated myself 1,000 times this season. The issues with this team stem from Murphy. Hats off to Lee for all of the fireworks over the past three seasons. I'm sorry to him that we didn't have a coach that had the ability to help him develop. Hats off to Thompson for playing his butt off today. A double double in 10 minutes against the MAC POY. He let his emotions get him late but who wouldn't. This is a frustrating season for a player of his caliber.

Make no mistake - Murphy is the problem. An inability to adjust strategically and develop talent are two of he largest knocks a coach can have. Time to go. Thanks for what you did but move on and let's find someone to take us to the next level.

Well said. Million dollar question......does Lyke know hoops well enough to realize the same?

I hope so. I'd like her to make the call soon if she's going to make it. Let's get a coach in asap just in case we have recruit issues (which is likely in a coaching change).

Also, I know this was a big talk on the other thread. We all know how big a loss Thompson would be but I don't think he would leave if Murphy is out. While he does still have his redshirt year to burn, I doubt he will. He has established a presence in the MAC and any reasonable move would be a lateral one. I could be wrong but I think we will have him. (I hope)

Doubt that EMU can afford to buy out the contract.

I believe Murphy's contract amount is $210K / year plus other monies such as radio shows, etc.

Someone sent me a link to the contract.

I didn't read over the section but I believe unless there is mutual agreement, if he is let go, EMU pays $210K. If Murphy takes another job, without a mutual agreement, he owes EMU $210K.

EMU and Murphy could have an agreement to part ways. If Murphy wants to move on, I'm sure the AD wouldn't stop him.

Wonder if he still has NBA aspirations. Didn't he try to bolt to Orlando early in his EMU career but the fact he would've had to pay back EMU helped him change his mind?

Miami and Illinois dumped their coaches today.

RE: Tourney Week: In CLE
Thompson's philosophy has always been not wanting to sit out a year just to transfer programs. He likes being a big fish in a small pond at EMU.

In regards to Murphy, I 100% agree. I just don't know if Lyke is going to make the move if the contract buyout is that expensive. And, my concern is Murphy has brought stability back to our program, who do you bring in to not only keep us afloat but take us to the next level? In order to take the next step you have to be bold, I'm not sure Lyke makes the decision unless she has a clear identification for who that person is. A "national search" does nothing to me. That's reserved for last place MAC teams.

He's no punk. Ever watch Kevin Garnett? You gotta play with an edge. Nicest kid off the court ever.

You can play with passion without playing dirty. The altercation with Antino Jackson at the end was unnecessary. Too many times losing his cool, the first Ball State game comes to mind. Great players know how to move on to the next play. I'm glad he's a nice guy off the court though.

Steve, not me. But I agree wholeheartedly that Murphy needs to go. No matter what talent he has coming in next year, the league has adjusted to his Mickey mouse zone.

He had plenty of time to demonstrate that he could make adjustments but did not do them in the game, between games, between OOC and Conference nor made any adjustments between seasons.

Murphy is stealing money from EMU.

I'd like to see what Groce could do with this team. He elevated Ohio after the Tim O'Shea era. Here is the John Groce press conference after Illinois let him go.

That Ohio team may very well have been the best team in MAC history.

Not sure I agree with that. Maybe BSU '89/'90?
