So many times Dustin, the big guy, and his group will start the classic DE-FENSE, double foot stomp. The cheer leaders will then start a frail voiced other chant. At least pick up on the DE-FENSE one!
If you feed the students they will come. Or give them a T-shirt. One of the best student attended year was the time they got their names put in for a drawing every time they came to a game. The last game of the year the winner got a free (used!) car that had been donated by a local realer.
I've given up standing up and yelling for a T-shirt or Harris Teeter give away. That lousy shirt gun can't reach our seats. We're only in row N! They do giveaways only to the first few rows. The cheerleaders are young and athletic....walk up a few steps in the aisles to throw giveaways!
The A Capella group that sang the Anthem the other light was very good. I was floored when they were introduced as the ODU A CAPELLA GROUP!!! Where have they been?
The Pan-Hellenic Council needs to be involved. bring back the contests between Frats/Sororities!!
Wow, that rant felt good!
Speaking of Dustin, what the heck is going on with the gameday and camera folks? They aren't even putting the camera on his routinely. We need to get Ice Cream and Cake rolling right away so that the camera can focus on his immediately after that ends so he can do his thing and get the crowd going crazy. I don't get it.
Maybe someone with money complained they don't want a topless man on the big screen. Shame, really. He is the best thing in the building to get the crowd fired up. Nothing else comes even close. He is a superfan and should be treated like one!
He is our complementary mascot . If students show up next season, maybe they can create print out of him to psych out the competition at the foul line.

That would require them to attend games and actually display some creativity.

About Dustin. I hope this lack of camera time is do to a new or substitute cameraman! Also, the last few games they have made Ice Cream and Cake the Dance Cam. That means no Tuffy the "whitest groove dancer ever"!!
I think it's at Chuck Gray we need to aim our complaints at least for these two "fails". He's they guy that takes the folks to mid-court to receive things like autographed balls. Please join me in mentioning our dispeasure!!

Really? I'm not the least bit displeased about seeing a close-to-middle-aged, morbidly obese, tatttooed guy with his shirt off playing air guitar on regional/national TV representing Old Dominion University. Not the image I want the university to portray and I don't care how nice a guy/big a fan he is.

I'll take Dustin any day compared to what I've seen representing ODU the last several days.

Let's break this one down.
Close-to-middle aged: that's still younger than the average of the fanbase
morbidly obese: morbid is probably a strong word. He gets to the games and he jumps in his seat more than you do, I'm willing to bet.
tattooed guy: you realize about 90% of our players have tattoos right
He gets the energy going in the Ted. He is an unofficial mascot, not the school president. But yeah let's mute the one thing that gets the energy going in the building, seems like a good strategy.

Its funny and it gets the crowd into it. I love it. Unless Kate Upton wants to take his place, then I'm all for it.

Not impressed with your argument. Lots of people in the stands cringe when he does his thing, and I'd be willing to bet the admin cringes, too. Then again, who effin' cares?

If we allow the athletic department to have its way, we'll be The Robins Center East in no time.

As a young alum and season ticket holder, it feels like we might already be there. I always feel a lot younger at games.

Yup, if they'd show up and act interested, it'd go a long way to re-energizing the building.

Get some big wins, get to the NCAAs, and they will come.

Well it seems that you do, if you've stated your feelings that his appearance is bad image/PR/etc. for the university.
However, I do agree that the increased involvement of ODU students would bring back more life to the Ted. ODU currently leads CUSA in MBB attendance, but I feel that we are definitely not in the lead for atmosphere/noise/spirit/whatever you want to call it.

This is definitely an area where VCU has us beat pretty badly. Even before their FF run, their home court is rockin every game.
