He is one of the best. The question is, how long before his resume leads to him exiting stage left?

Well now, AState is getting up to JMU numbers. I don't say that to belittle anyone, our administration has got to realize at some point we left the CAA behind and make the leap. It's sad to have the budget we have and not be playing big boy football.

He and Doug Gillin are definitely rising stars in college AD world.

the good news for both programs is P5 AD openings don't happen every year, you have to really screw up to get fired, and most ADs hang on to the job for a long time before they retire. Hopefully, both will be at our schools for atleast 3 or 4 more years.

The crazy thing is that we pay more in salaries, facilities and we pay stipends to all our scholarship athletes with a similar budget. Where does the money in JMU's budget go? Tuition?

Sounds like JMU doesn't get very good deals things. Doesn't make any sense that you guys are spending upper tier G5 money.

Do most schools include their capital budget in this? I think this is inflated somewhat because it includes those large projects and will go back down once they are complete. It is overall spending for athletics obviously, but typically I think those lists are showing what your annual spending looks like. I mean, if so, the Cajuns had over $20 mil extra with baseball and golf facilities that started in the last 12 months or previous years where they had the football and APC built. I don't think those ever showed up on the USA Today listing where the budgets are compiled

Are capital expenditures normally included in an operating budget?

Difference is, we do it with far tighter state funding laws than Virginia in terms of what can be considered part of the Athletic budget.

Arkansas has some very strange laws when it comes to state funding. Our booster arm for example, doesn't really have to report what it takes in annually publicly, but surplus donations cannot be added to the Athletic Budget according to the law. Only what our Athletic Department spends can actually be considered, and Capital Expenses must be reported.
Overall though, we've got a ton of Capital improvements left. Still have about 40 million more to spend on the football stadium. Olympic Sports have small work that needs to be done, and we're still looking at the distinct possibility down the road that We're going to need a new baseball stadium, and potentially have to add Women's Softball.
It will probably stay this high for a little while. The key is that we actually take in 43 million annually now, which will help for the future.

We're forced to include anything that touches athletics in our budget, so I'm guessing AState spends far more on PURELY athletics than JMU.

Not that I don't believe you when you say it, but, I don't really believe you know what you're saying. Can you demonstrate how $43 million is entering your revenue stream per year?

There's an itemized list of revenue and expenditures in the Article man. We took in 43.1 million and Spent 43.1 million.
