"just selling a joint". And you might buy the "they were unaware" but I don't. I know what goes on in my house and so does everyone else I know.

You think you know everything going on. I doubt if you do, especially if you have teens or older kids at home.

Here's a motel valued over 2 mil that was took because over the years there were 15 arrest for drugs at the motel. Not the owner or anyone working there but people renting rooms. Cost the owner $60,000 to get his property back

LOL. Ask my kids. One is about to turn 21 and is in the Army in El Paso and the other will be 17 next month. I know what goes on in my house.

And for your next example.........again LOL.

If you believe that hotel management isn't getting daily reports from their housekeeping staff about the goings on in each and every room you are truly a fool.

again you might think you know what those teens did. Ask that 21 year old and I bet he tells you he fooled you more than once. Unless you had a video camera going 24/7 in their room you don't know what goes on once that door closes. For that matter if it's open, unless you are right there. No matter how controlling you think you are.

As for the motel owner and maids knowing what goes on...

you are the fool on this if you think they give a crap about who's doing what. Or if you think they clean each of those rooms every day. But even if they did..so what. No one is leaving their bag of dope out so the maid can steal it.

That motel had a sign out front with a I believe a $240 a week on it. Those rooms don't get maid service every day. But I doubt if Billy Bob is selling his meth right in from of the maid or the owner.

It's not the owners job to police people staying at his motel. He pays taxes for that. But with that line of thought ..

shouldn't the feds be able to take every sports team where someone was using or injecting a player with a drug? Shouldn't the owner know whats going on in his locker room?

I wont call you a fool because you think you know everything that 16 and 21 year old did in your home. But you are blind. :)

Did my kids sneak a snack or play some video games after they went to bed? Probably. Would I have noticed if kids were dealing drugs off my front porch? You damn right I would have. If you are stupid enough to not notice a drug dealer on your front porch you deserve to lose your ****.

As for the motel........hang the "do not disturb" sign all you want. There is someone who works for the motel who checks on each room every day. Next time you vacation somewhere hang the DND sign and run a piece of scotch tape on the door.

Bullsh!t. Crimes are committed all the time in various establishments underneath the nose of the owner. Contract killer who does business at a local steakhouse. Does the restaurant owner need to vet all his customers? Of course not. That's unreasonable to put such a burden on him/her. Or what about the guy who rents cars/trucks? If a drug trafficker takes a liking to using that guys vehicles to run drugs, it's not the owner's fault if that happens.

This is a good, in-depth account of asset forfeiture:

My 2 cents as a Libertarian. I have zero problem with punishing those that engage in theft, fraud, violence and destruction of property. If asset seizure is a part of punishing people that engage in breaking the principle of non aggression? Im fine with it.

Many people think that Libertarians are soft on crime. Hell no. In fact...Id make those that break the non aggression principle pay a much harsher penalty than our current system. Asset forfeiture would be welcomed by offenders under my paradigm.

If you choose to bash me for this stance?...Please take a moment and think about what the axiom of non aggression means.

But would the assets be guilty until proven innocent like they are now?

That article from the New Yorker was very sad. All of that excitement over a class action lawsuit that ultimately failed to make the innocent plaintiffs whole. Monumental theft on a grand scale. Damages should be punitive. That way, this piss poor law will NEVER be abused by corrupt LEOs and ADs ever again.

Hell no...That is insane. Our current paradigm is nothing more than theft to prop up the ever growing police state. Any seizures under the paradigm I support would be put back into general funds.

Especially when a lot of that money goes into paying many hours of police overtime. When someone can profit from a law most of the time you will find corruption because of it.

It also pays for a lot of the "special drug enforcement units" so if your job might depend on taking someone else property... it gets abused. It makes it almost impossible to decriminalize low level drug use because in small town USA most drug bust are just users. The police and government will lose too much money.

My wife and I travel a lot and we use to carry up to 5k on us because she loves buying items from sales while we travel. A lot of those were cash buys. Not any more because I know if I got stopped (and I drive fairly fast..had a couple 90 in a 70 the last couple years) I'm losing that money and might even lose a 40k SUV if the wrong one stopped us.
