I wonder, if the same thing is happening in colleges around the country, how much of an impact will it have?
Fall == August
Today == January/February
Difference ==7 months
Temporary Ban Duration == 3 months
MATH is FUNDAMENTAL.
They have to be revetted again which could take 2 years under Trump's plans.
Exactly.
Which means they will more than likely just go to college elsewhere.
Shameful. Just think of all the students who were going to have the opportunity to be educated in the United States and learn what America is really like.
Now they will likely be recruited by Islamic terrorists.
Or, they could go to Canada or Europe. Or, even Mexico. Coming here isn't a right and joining terrorists is a choice.
Or, maybe the Obama vetting standards were great and these people will sail through.

I would guess that ICE or some similar agency has a system pretty well outlined and designed, but it will still take some time.
So there's a transition period. How do we handle it? I think we went a bit overboard here. There were probably some less draconian interim measures that could have been implemented quickly while we got the system in place.
I'm not as concerned about this as I will be if we don't have something better in place in 90 days. But I think it could have been handled better.
I agree it could be handled better....
but the reason we get responses like this is because it could have been handled better a year ago... or three... or five... or even 10... but Politicians decided they would rather kick the can down the road and ACT as if they're concerned than address the elephants in the room.
Given this announcement, which has already (in a matter of hours/days) addressed some of the shortcomings of the original announcement... (no 'green card' and better communication etc) and has a 90-120 day expiration versus MANY YEARS of doing essentially nothing.... I'll take this.
Sure, he could have handled it better... but every regular politician (especially vocal guys like Schumer) would have 'kicked the can' for another 4 years.

I'm waiting to see what happens after the expiration. I don't think I have much more to offer to the conversation until then.
That should be enough time for something new and concrete AND enough time for the supporters to criticize him if nothing comes out of it.

Now here is the RUB, as they say. If the vetting under Obama was so great, then it shouldn't take 2 more years, right? We would have all of the information necessary for vetting and people already in the system would breeze through. Unless, of course, the vetting system currently in place is crap. Then, people are in for a longer wait.
Why should an elderly lady coming from Iran to visit family need to go through the vetting process again when she is clean and no threat? I think that is stupid.

Yep, those are the only two options.
