So way to go Mariner and LaRussa
I just don't understand the coaches logic with going with qb's that are 5'10" 185 ( LaRussa) and 5'11" 190 (Arnold). I guess they plan on being a running team first with Lowery ,Cox and Mariner. Passing from the pocket your going to need a step stool to see over the line which is 6'5 - 6'7" average. Neither is very mobile and then your playing teams like VT, UNC, ect.
The average size of a quarterback in the CUSA is 6'2 215. That's a 4" and 30lbs difference . Am I missing something here?
We have QBs of varying size. It's not like they are targeting all short QBs. Larussa was a walk on and earned a scholarship; doesn't mean hes the starter.
Our OL doesnt average anywhere close to 6-5 to 6-7. Think we only have 1 OL that is is 6-7.
BOth Larussa and Arnold are mobile.
Roster list 4 O-line as 6'6" and 1 as 6'7" not sure them all being freshman or redshirt freshman matters to you or not.
Just saying
I hope your not basing mobility on HS highlights.
Not that it really means much, but all of our starters are listed at 6-3 and 6-4, which probably means 6-1 to 6-3.
I've see Larussa play a few times. Heck, he's played for us a number of times, including the spring games.
But, why could you not tell if a guy was mobile or not on HS tape?
Whether we have good QB play or not will not depend on the height of the QB.
I'd hate to see what this would do to our qb's height using this analysis. I attended 4 home games and watched 3 others on tv this season. I'm pretty confident that Washington wasn't towering over his oline. He is a legit 6'3"
High school highlights are just that highlights. Evaluation of any athlete requires watching entire game film. Something I have been doing for years. Neither are as mobile as you think.
If you become a running football team your right , height does not matter. Just hand the ball off. If you plan to go down field with the ball through the air. Well I think being able to see over your o-line and opposing rush is.

Yes it is the same juco that JV came from. However I would caution that this young man has no rating or stars something people on this board tend to rely on heavily.

I'm about 5'11" with shoes. But my hands are the same measurement as the avg nfl qb and my arms are the same length as most 6'3" guys, I'm pretty lanky. 2 of 3 metrics. So because I'm more like 5'10" in realty should we discount the other tangible features? Seems we get hung up on height. We saw a 5'9", maybe, receiver own Alabama. Yeah statistically the odds don't favor but doesn't automatically rule anyone out.

Because the competition is mostly guys who would struggle to play D3 football and can't run.

LMAO on the QB height argument. Yes, please sign me up for the 7 foot tall Osweiler, since height is all that matters for a QB.
If only there were a way to avoid having to pass over a lineman's head, or see downfield.
Writing off a guy based on height and weight is a dangerous game.

How did you aquire entire game film of Drayton Arnold? I wouldn't mind watching some myself.
Not sure if that is possible. His HS would have game films, I'm sure but unless his HS game(s) were broadcast on TV - locally in the Myrtle Beach area, I don't believe you could get the HS film. Even when they share game film with competitors, typically the Staff could submit edited film they approve to share. ODU may have film from his HS games that they requested when they were recruiting him....but I don't believe they would make them available.

I believe he was saying he has been evaluating game film for years, not necessarily BL or DA.
It is becoming more common for recruits to submit game film of entire games (or a half) to recruiting services. Heck some even post their game film on youtube

That's what I was getting at. It seems incongruous to say one cannot evaluate any athlete without viewing entire game film, and then say "neither BL or DA are as mobile as you think." He would have had to watch entire game videos of both of these players to come to such a conclusion; which I suppose is possible.

And he would have had to know how mobile I think Arnold and BL to compare to his opinion.
I've see enough of BL and Arnold to know they are both mobile QBs. Hell, you can just watch the practice film sent out periodically from Whitcomb or fellow players. Both of them can move; doesn't mean they will be running for 1000 yards per season though.

There is a difference between mobile, and rushing. Neither BL or DA are made of marble, but they're not Lamar Jackson either.

I'm curious, I have done an extensive search for any ODU football practice. All I can find are a few drills on the qb coaches twitter account. No practices anywhere.
Since ODU uses a program called Thundercloud and the only way you can access it is through a password. It's not available to the public. That would mean either you are a coach here or a parent of a player on the team. Which is cool means you have an inside track to what goes on behind the curtain.

To answer your question delmarva, I've watched BL since his days at Great Bridge Middle School. BL is mobile, he is not going to avg 50 yards a game rushing but he'll get the job done running sideline to sideline looking for open WRs. Everyone who watched the last game at Foreman Field before halftime saw BL move around to make the hailmary play. If BL wins the starting role your going to see a qb similar to Thomas DeMarco and a little of TH in him. BL wont outrun opponents but if we need a QB draw to move the chains he'll get the job done. I think with BL and DA similar in build we could see both playing.
