As for Boise State? They have more population in their town than several P5 schools does. Replace Washington State with Boise State, and you get a much better tv market. Plus, Boise State have made their name known the past 15 + years, and were have Washington State name the past 15 years +? Boise State is a national brand right now than Washington State. The last few years, Washington State have been known as losing to FCS schools especially Eastern Washington this year.
Spokane is a bigger media market than Boise, not to mention the state of Washington has 5.5 million more people in it than the state of Idaho.

Doesn't change the fact that Boise State has no research output, no endowment, no academic prestige, and a staggeringly low graduation rate. In spite of their football success, they have more in common with Eastern Washington than any PAC 12 school.

What money?
If athletic department revenue is any reflection, WSU is kicking BSU's a$$ up and down the block, even though they're close to the bottom of the PAC-12.

Nevada and Boise got out while the gettin' was good, to the WAC. You would've had NM St, Idaho, and Utah St stick around in the Big West??? N Texas and Ark St were joining the Sun Belt, regardless.

Bang.
Should be required reading for anyone promoting Boise for membership in a P5 conf, or can't understand why Boise isn't already in a P5.
It would cost way too much money to get their research up to that level as well, having to recruit new faculty from places like MIT, Stanford, Michigan, etc. by offering them big-time salaries, big start-up grants, and new, expensive lab facilities. And private industry won't fund that unless they're getting something directly in return. Plus, with federal funding staying flat ... if Boise was going to build itself up, it would have to take that funding away from other established institutions, which of course will fight that.
All this points to: not gonna happen.

Eastern Washington doesn't have that crazy high debt for athletic facilities .
Which is a plus for Eastern along with more realistic fan expectations.

EWU wants to build a new football stadium, though. And they have that colored turf thing down, too.

If Idaho can keep the ball rolling from this year, then Idaho, EWU, Montana, and Montana St make the foundation of a good football conference.

If Chuck Staben was still at Idaho, there would’ve been a murder scene inside the Kibbie Dome yesterday.

Boise is never getting a PAC invite. Their stadium sits a little over 30,000 people. If they could get better attendance they’d expand their stadium. They were in FCS a little over 20 years ago. It’s not like they’re a former power conference team that got left out like TCU.
And their academics top it all off.
And honestly they aren’t even the football power nowadays that they were under Hawkins and Peterson.

I still am amazed that Idaho went from a PCC member to being forced to FCS. It’s hard to believe that Idaho used to be in a football conference with Southern Cal.
