That's pretty awesome.
160over90 and Spurrier Group must be really pushing hard.
Looks like the coaster, but that doesn't look like Santa Fe Depot or Old Town stops.

Might have been Seaport Village. Was there 2 afternoons in a row. Also saw the train pass by while waiting at Old Town station one morning. It was the coaster train.

I went to Nats game yesterday via the DC Metro and got off at the Navy Yard. It was plastered with ODU online degree ads.

ODU sees how much money Liberty is getting from online degrees and is trying to cash in.

Boggles my mind why it took them this long. I took classes in the teletechnet center a 15 years ago.
Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

The Washington Nationals have a "College Day Series" in which they promote a local university in the ballpark during a game. You can buy gear that has both the Nationals and your school logos. We unknowingly wondered into "UVA Day". What grinds my gears is when I saw where VCU (and W&M) have featured nights but not ODU especially when I know ODU is trying to make inroads in the 15,000 alumni who live in the DC area. Sometimes I think our people are asleep at the switch. https://www.mlb.com/nationals/tickets/pr...day-series

I think I've spoken about it before but this is something small but significant that ODU can do. I knew lots of ODU alumni that I went to school with that were DC sports fans, especially nationals fans. A lot of them live in the DMV area as well. While it wouldn't be as big as a VT or UVA day, I don't understand why this hasn't happened. Maybe we can get in another year but the Nationals have been doing this for a few years now, and even sell Nationals hats in the university colors (which I see people wearing all over the place). This is something ODU should and should have already hopped on

Contact the ODU DC/NOVA Alumni Association. All it takes is a commitment from them to sell a certain number of tickets for their group, I think 2k.

As someone who frequents nats park regularly, it pains me to see the VCU and JMU Nats gear in the team store. However, I would be shocked if ODU could pull this off if they need 2k people. I just don't think 1) we don't have a very big footprint in the DMV, and 2) we just don't have the same kind of school pride that VCU and JMU alumni and students have. That pains me to say that too, but its true.

I think you'd be surprised how many would drive from out of the area for it. And I'm not entirely sure what the total tickets required to get the hats made is. It could be less
But my other point remains. If y'all want an ODU night at Nats Park, contact the ODU DC/Nova AA and ask them why this isn't happening already. They should already have an explanation for those of you wondering. And if they don't have one, they should respond by doing the research to figure out what is required to get it done. Stop wondering and start reacting.

Liberty has a unique selling point with their "christian education" hook. There is a reason for tens of thousands of Christians to buy their unique blend of faith and learning. ODU had momentum with the military and distance learning with teletechnet, but the internet and online learning have made that obsolete, Now there is no reason for a person to choose ODU over any of the hundreds of other decent online offerings. If ODU's reputation were better than ECU, GMU, UMD, UNC or any other school that offered online education or if we had something unique to offer that was only available at ODU it could be a cash cow like it is for Liberty. But we don't.
If I were ODU, I would concentrate on making the on-campus experience; physically, socially and academically, as great as possible while hiring top notch faculty, improving facilities and increasing the rigor and reputation of the school. I simply cant understand why ODU doesn't position itself as Coastal Virginia's Top Research University. Basically the Virginia Tech of the eastern part of the state near the beach. That was how it was sold to me and it was appealing.

You are exactly right and unfortunately, Old Dominion leadership has chosen to go backwards in regards to academic prestige. The school raised it's admission standards and enrollment sky-rocketed under Runte. The campus grew, facilities improved, reputation was enhanced. For whatever reason, Old Dominion has abandoned that philosophy and has abandoned academic excellence as the goal. We've taken a huge step backwards in my opinion. It's sad to see and the repercussions will be felt even more so in the future.
