RE: SBC Championship Game Discussion (stAte vs. Troy)
What was the deal with all the hurry up offense you guys ran early vs GSU? If you guys run that vs Troy it will be difficult to stop. Looking at the number of plays you've run this season, it doesn't look like you've ran tempo much.

RE: SBC Championship Game Discussion (stAte vs. Troy)
This has been an unbelievable exciting year in the Sun Belt. ESPN is getting a steal with these mid-week games
This is not the same stAte team that started 0-4. (And UCA would be bowl eligible in this conference) stAte fans blame the coaches for the slow start. That is somewhat true, but it's also growing pains of replacing some great skill position players: Knighten, McKissic, Houston, Griswald, and Gordon.
Our defense is playing well, our Offense is starting to hits it's stride. Troy didn't impress me against South Alabama. stAte really controlled the USA game and could have won by more if not for putting the breaks on once the game was a lock.
Anderson and stAte have the individual talent to win in convincing fashion on Thursday night if they can play as a team. That being said, Troy is a good team and they could also have a convincing win.
Think this game will come down to turnovers and mistakes. Good luck to Troy, hope your 25 ranking is short lived.

I think Buster Faulkner comes up with some new twist stAte hasn't show before(like 2 RB set) to help our running game - and when we are running it well and getting first downs we tempo up.
Then, the defense invariably adjusts and stAte has a hard time rushing the ball and thus worse 2nd down and distance combos slow things down for our evolving, inexperienced QB.

It's what we can do, and what we want to do. We often have not because we seem to have major turnover issues when we speed the game up. We slowed the game down believing our defense was good enough to beat anyone, and it generally worked
When we are clicking, we do move very fast...at least to line up. Then we can slow the game down as we please.

I'm pretty sure its because Faulkner doesn't know what to do. You are right though, we invariably on both sides try new things every week, and they almost always fail, and we have to go back to basics to make up for it.

I feel you, chief. I do think our defense is as good as yours or very close to it. We can't give you short fields though. As I've said before, all things equal, I think we're a better squad at this point, but there are intangibles in play that could work in your favor.
Difference between our defense and App's is App plays a very clean game. We play dirty. Our goal will be to hit Silvers hard to disrupt is rhythm and try and knock him out of the game. If that costs us a personal foul...so be it.
We won't target usually...but we will hit hard and we will hit after the whistle.. It's the hallmark of a Blake Anderson team.
I don't agree with that assessment at all, Chief.

Eh, embrace it. It's who we are. We don't try to kill anyone, but you can't convince me our goal isn't to try and knock Silvers out of the game and take advantage of their inexperienced backups.

Define "knock Silvers out of the game." Because if you're referring to intentionally trying to injure him...well that's just some B.S. and uncalled for.

That is ALL BS.
Anderson would dismiss anyone on the team for an intentional injury and fire his coach. On the other hand, he will send the pack and let 'em hunt and let the chips fall where they may.

Hit him hard as much as possible. Make it where he is no longer capable of standing comfortably in the pocket, if he gets hurt, so be it.

Players will tell you that Arkansas St. players always play through the whistle, which is a polite way to say they're borderline dirty. At least they're up front about it. Some of the Troy players got a little frustrated with App's defensive players for hitting hard and "through the whistle play", I'd say Ark St. plays through the whistle a hair longer than our defense.

This will be a great matchup. We've given up only three sacks this year, APP being the only SBC to sack us (they got one sack). Clemson and UMASS got one each. It's not just the strength of the o-line, it's Brandon's super quick release. You've got about 1.13 seconds to get to Silvers. APP fans suggested batting down passes might be more successful.

Maybe we'll get a few 15's on late hits. Won't mind at all.

That's not dirty though. That's just football. The idea is to hit the ball carrier. Not rush them, get close, and ask if they'd mind taking a knee.

Just to clarify something here.
We are 33rd in the nation in penalties per game at 4.92 for an average of 46 penalty yards per game.
Penalties per game 1st in SBC
Penalty Yards per game 3rd SBC
Chief is out of his head again.

Up to Troy -9.5 now. Rising steadily. Won't change the outcome of the game, but Vegas usually is right and that gives me confidence. They've been very very close (2 to 3 points) in our last three games.
