Quote:The Mountaineers' athletic department, for the most part, is self-supporting. Marshall, on the other hand, operates its athletic department mainly with major state funding.
WVU actually would realize less profit from playing Marshall than it would Mississippi State, a future foe, or almost any other non-conference opponent.
The Thundering Herd is asking for a considerably bigger payoff for playing in Morgantown than WVU is offering schools from other conferences.
Of course Mickey the WVU shill Furfari never makes a slip of the keboard.
Too bad it has been pointed out in print that Marshall uses just under $1.5 million dollars from their general revenue budget for their $16 million athletic department budget.
For the most part?
Not by a long shot pallie.
First it was "We don't visit MAC schools" Now we aren't in the MAC
Then it was "we get no recruiting advantange there", but of course, you don't recruit North Carolina either but you've been playing ECU for 20 years.
Then it was "Your stadium is too small", but then you played non-conference games at Cincinnati (smaller) and have played at ECU when it was smaller than our current configuration.
And it all comes back to being self-sufficient. The last ditch excuse that is always loaded in the back of the ammo pile.
You want Marshall to be more self-sufficient, but you want the Herd to take it in the a$$ financially to play WVU.
You say WVU is self sufficient, but you want to rob a government funded institution for a big payday.
How about just play the game on decent terms.
You want a 3-for-1, double the payout.
You want a 2-for-1, we'll take the normal $250,000.
You say you can pay us the same as what other like schools get paid, we say go ahead, and we'll play someone else who pays us what we're worth, AND gives us home games.
You can stick to your excuse loaded agenda, and we'll continue to build relationships with people who also think you are a small time operation and continue to build a presence on the national scene to the point where not only don't we want to play you, but if we do, you'll be getting a 2-for-1 from us. Two in our house.
C Ya at the Tire Bowl champ.
