Bearcat Banter Music Lover's Thread: Whatcha Listenin' To Son?
I've posted on several other CSN music appreciation threads and thought I'd start one on here (assuming there hasn't been one in the past) since many of you have indicated an appreciation for the music arts. As Hank Hill once asked...

In tribute to my first live concert in 1984 at the Toledo Sports Arena...

I like this tune better from the Scorpions circa 1977...

How very "un-Banter-like" of you, to do a thread about music you LIKE! No wonder I'm one of the first replies 03-nerner Your post on "Cortez" is one great example that, those who rip Neil over his voice just don't get it 04-bow

I have been listening to blues this week in my changer. Yes, I still do CDs. I have far too big of a collection by this point to abandon it (as I already did when downloading/streaming became the norm). Hooker, Elmore, and Lightnin' (among others) have taken up residence in my carousel.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I like almost all music Steve Earle has put out over the years, this is a beautiful song and the imagery in the first verse is just perfect.

This is one of my favorite Springsteen songs done better by The Band.

I'm not as big a Springsteen fan as a lot of people but I still enjoy much of his music, this being my favorite song of his.

And lets throw in a little hip hop for good measure.

I've never understood nor agreed with the knocks on Neil's voice. I mean, Bob Dylan's voice is far worse from a dynamic standpoint but it perfectly fits his musical style.

I like your blues posts especially Lightnin' Hopkins. I had the privilege to catch a B.B. King show at Bogart's on Short Vine during my undergrad days. Incredible performance in a small venue. This live album captures that spirit and feel when you can hear the crowd in the background...

Has there ever been a better "super group" that seemed to be the perfect complimentary fit? Harrison, Dylan, Orbison, Petty and Lynne. I always liked that tune. This one too...

Doubt it. The first album could be played on repeat and I wouldn't mind it one bit.

Funny thing is how quickly they produced it, which was terrific across the board. Some artists take forever and can't put together something approaching a good album. They literally did it in hours.

Dylan is my all time favorite songwriter, his songs are great even when someone else is performing them. All Along the Watchtower as performed by Hendrix is one of the all time great songs. Guns N Roses does a great Knocking on Heaven's door. Hell, Hootie's "Only want to be with you" just takes lines directly from Idiot Wind. Albums as a whole don't get much better than Highway 61 Revisited.

If you like bluegrass, this one holds up pretty well.

Not a good song if you are staring at a screen waiting for something to happen, but my favorite song from a group that had too much talent to play together in the first place.

And I'm not usually much for listening to rap lyrics, but if you listen to this one front to back, you'll hear a master at his craft.

I'm currently going through the Buckcherry catalog to pick out some winners--so far I've found about half a dozen very solid tracks.

To date myself, my very 1st concert was...Boston (2nd album)...and my last concert was....Boston (final album)...with many, many groups in between.

Probably the most impressive concert I remember was the Page/Plant Reunion at the Coliseum....they played Kashmir with a full Orchestra backing them...it was....amazing.

Some more hip hop courtesy of Hi-Tek who throws a little Bearcat reference into the song.

Bearhawkeye's pick for best album I've heard from the first half of 2016 is Sturgill Simpson's A Sailor's Guide to Earth. It's clearly an album meant to be listened to from beginning to end, but for those who only have time for a sample or two, here's his cover of In Bloom:

Colbert's relentless strident politics make him pretty unwatchable imo, but I did enjoy his (non-album) duet with Sturgill in tribute to Waffle House:

I'll have to say that is pretty damn cool. I never would've guessed a Nirvana cover song from Sturgill Simpson!
