Really scared for my Eagles. La Tech is a good team and it's going to be tough to beat them, especially down Cockrell. We're going to have to play lights out to take the series and phenomenally out of this world to sweep. We need the sweep though.

They have won 15 of their last 17 so they definitely have plenty of momentum coming into the weekend. Overall they are just 1 less win on the season than us with the same amount of losses.

RE: 5/13 - 5/15 CUSA baseball weekend action
As I stated over in EP, this is going to be an entertaining series. La Tech been hot the past month that's for sure. Their only four losses in the past month were a 1 run loss to UTSA, 2 run loss to ODU, 1 run loss to FIU and a 2 run loss to Mcneese State.

On the flip side they aren't scoring that much...they are averaging just over 6 runs per game over that span. If our bats are hot like they were this weekend, there's no reason we can't take the series. If this was in Ruston I'd be VERY worried...but we've only lost THREE games at home all season. Yeah, we'll be without our Friday night ace but since this game is at home, I predict our pitching staff will do fine. I predict we win the series in 6-4, 7-5, 3-9 type scores. Bottom line: it'll be an entertaining series.

If I were a betting man, I'd probably put all my treasure on the Monarchs to beat MT this weekend because we really are S#@t this year. On the other hand, do we ever lose to ODU in anything?

It'd be a shame to start now

IMO, this series along with the Rice/FAU series is what late season baseball is all about. With no disrespect to Marshall, 4 teams (in the top 5) going at it with 1st place implications on the line. I'm sure USM fans for the most part will be somehow following the Rice/FAU score thoughout the USM/La Tech game.

Why is your worst pitcher pitching on Friday and your best on Sunday? Seems really odd.

nobody expected Sutton to be the best pitcher since he's not too far removed from Tommy John surgery

Our original Friday night starter got injured early in the season.

Our original Saturday starter got bumped up to be our Friday night starter.

Our original Sunday starter was moved to be a midweek starter.

Our current Saturday and Sunday pitchers started the year coming out of the bullpen with a couple midweek starts.

The Golden Eagles were at 12 or 13 before losing 2 of 3 at UAB about a month ago. They have inched back up to 18th since then.

Kind of have the same feeling about this series that I did about the UAB series.

Hopefully it's just the lunch I ate today.

Having the games in Hattiesburg could/should be the difference, IMO.

We also have to take advantage of the tourney being at PTP again this year and for the final time in the foreseeable future.
