Could the thought be the B12 could create something greater than the sum of its parts by adding 4 schools?

It may not mean anything yet on the TV front but 5-10 years down the road it could.

Actually I think Cinci and CSU may be what Texas would accept. Get's WVU a travel partner and brings back the Colardo market to the B12. With 14 maybe planned down down the road with UCONN and Memphis by having 9 teams willing to expand unless Texas gets CSU to be loyal to them for getting them into B12.

The Big 12 should move forward with the strategy to be the conference of the west. Adding programs like BYU, Colorado state, Houston, New Mexico, and possibly either UNLV or Nevada.

They could have started with New Mexico instead of West Virginia. UNM is a great basketball addition with huge attendance in that sport.

Then follow in with Colorado State and BYU to give more mountain presence.

Yup. At least then they would control a huge chunk of the map.

Boise State have a better fan following than Colorado State. Boise's PAC 12 rivals are Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State and Utah. Adding Boise State would have a much better impact striking at the PAC 12. Colorado State's only rival is Colorado. Boise State does have a much better tv ratings on ESPN than Colorado State. Somebody is not doing their homework right on which schools to add. Colorado actually brings nothing to the Big 12 overall.

Problem is that BYU is the only western school with a strong following for their football program, and Houston is basically repetitive DMA for Texas, who already owns the city of Houston (I personally would like to see UH, Rice and SMU back together with UT but I don't see it occurring unless there is a crazy scenario where B12 breaks up and reforms the SWC with Texas having overwhelming power over the conference).

For what the B12 is looking for (long-term survival), most likely BYU and UCF would be the best additions since it gives them the largest school in Florida and the largest non-Notre Dame following not already locked into a P5 conference.

BYU & Colorado St could be a smart move toward the west. Cincy, UCF, ECU & ODU (I know ODU is a simi new start up) would be a good move east. (bringing in populated states for TV).

This would also buy some time for two more schools in the east to get their on campus stadium issues addressed (USF, Temple, Memphis, or UCONN). To reach 18 teams.

And then go into the California market for San Diego St & Fresno St. for a 20 team conference in populated areas with great recruiting. However, like it or not it will take Texas to keep this conference at P5 level. Let them and BYU have their own network and let the other 18 teams negotiate their network as a unit.

RE: Dallas News: Top 4 for expansion: Col State, Cincy, BYU, UConn
The BigXii just needs to go to 20 with an A league and a B league in football. The A league gets 10/12th of the revenue. Ten additions split the revenue for the two approved spots (2/12th of total revenue split 10 ways).

A League (~25M each plus 10/12 network revenue split 10 ways)
UT, TTU, TCU, Baylor, OU,OSU,ISU,KU,WVU,KSU

B League (~5M each plus 2/12 network revenue split 10 ways)
SDSU,UNLV,Boise,CSU,UNM,Hou,Mem,Cinci,UCONN,UCF + BYU sched. arrangement.

If the networks were willing to give fills shares for members 11/12, those full shares (40-50M) can just be split 10 ways and the network partners can skim the best games (more protection for the networks from add-one flopping as someone has to win these games). This gives the biggest footprint and most content for a BigXII network.

This is no more worthy then any other article that has been posted, not sure why it deserves its own thread.
If it said Cincinnati was top 4 it would rate it's own Web Portal ND Mobile App.

Nice thought but 14 isn't going to be the number. The reported results of the research the Big 12 commissioned say that there is no benefit to going to 14 for playoff purposes and adds more problems such than it solves.

If from the article this is true "Since any expansion dovetails with a TV network, look to the markets of possible candidates." then the list would have to include Fresno State/SDSU.

better to split this way, then go to parity scheduling for cross-division.

west
BYU, CSU, ISU, Kan, KSU, Ok, OkSt

east
Uconn, WV, Cincy, TCU, Baylor, Tex, TT

then for the parity scheduling, these teams will always play each year in cross-division games

Ok-Tex
OkSt-TT
BYU-TCU
KSU- Baylor
Kan-UConn
ISU- Cincy
CSU-WV

Memphis building an OCS would be stupid. The 62k Liberty Bowl is literally less than 3 miles away. Colorado St can build $220M stadiums all they want, but it is still half the stadium that Memphis fills up. Heck Memphis averages 7k more in football attendance than their new stadium even holds. Attendance is far better predictor of expansion outcomes than building a stadium the size of a shoe no matter how nice it is.
