A *LOT* of kids, especially very very young kids, get it in their head at some point that they are something they are not.. In kids under seven the answer is to tell them what they are, that it's fine to be that, and to move one... Not to facilitate making a spectacle of them at the age of five and in the process pressure them into sticking with an identity which was never real.

Bottom line....A 5 year old does not have the ability to understand reality from fantasy.

Neither do his parents. Sounds like its time for a foster home.
