Well we finally got an outing from Hoffman that we expected coming into the season. Only two quality starts coming into last night. Both our Friday and Saturday guys have all conference skills. They just have not played up to that so far this season which is why we are a 500 club right now. In fact, we only had four quality starts from their 12 coming in.

USM and Charlotte both blow chances early on.

USM loads the bases with 0 outs but hits into DP and only gets 1. Charlotte gets a lead off walk but then caught stealing. Next guy walks but is thrown out trying to advance to 3rd on a single to right. 1-0 USM after 1

In the bottom 2 Charlotte gets runners on 2nd and 3rd then the runner on 3rd gets picked off. USM follows it up by hitting into a DP to start the the third.

USM up 6-0 in the 7th inning.

UAB wins games 1 of DH 2-0
USM up 7-1 after 8

USM beats Charlotte 9-1 and leads the series 2-0.

Anyone else think today is do or die for ODU? Remember that they don't draw USM, so this is their last shot at a quality conference series win.

Potentially bigger news than the result in the USM game was Braley tweaking his hamstring. He hurt himself making a defensive play. He stayed in for one more at-bat (which he doubled on) and then had to come out.

From what it sounds like, it isn't a serious injury.....but those hamstring issues have a way of nagging you for a while.

Braley is on an absolute ungodly tear right now with a .453/1.043/.588 slash line in conference play, including four home runs and two doubles in 23 at-bats, with 14 RBIs.

We've got plenty of hitting on the team. If he is in any pain, I would not be afraid to sit him as a precaution until next weekend.

Berry said on the Cox interview that he had injured his knee and hoped he could play on Sunday.

Eagles get an early run-rule knockout for the second week in a row.

USM takes it 16-6. Extremely balanced effort out of a lineup missing Taylor Braley.

The 9-1-2-3-4 stretch of this offense can be an absolutely murderer's row. Today, you had Dawson go 2-for-2 and get on base all five times, so our leading hitter is now our 9-hole guy. Buurdeaux went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI. Hadley 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Lynch went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and reached base all five times. Braley sat out but Scott hit cleanup and with 2-for-4 with a homer.

Yeah, yeah. I'm aware that we've faced the worst pitching staffs in the league. But USM fans have gotten used to seeing us not hitting BAD pitching. So, it is refreshing to see us knock the hell out it this year.

I don't know if this team has the pitching to make a regional. We've damn sure got a better chance than previous years, especially with it appearing as though this conference is a bit shorter on dominant front-line rotation guys than most years. Even if we don't make a regional, it sure is a hell of a lot more fun doing it this way than how we have been the last few years.

Fun Stat of the Day: Nick Dawson's is hitting .517 with an OBP of .615 through nine games of C-USA play.
