I know we aren't done, but I'm happy that we will have more size this coming season. We add 6'11, 6'10, and 6'9 from the three newcomers to go along with Thompson and Nobles. I think this will help our defense tremendously.

We really need to add a couple more guards. I'd love to get that Hawkins kid from Towson that wouldn't be eligible until 17-18, but a proven scorer from a solid team. Adding a 4-year guard would be nice too, since we lose our whole back court after this year. We'll see which direction Murph goes in. Lots of time left to add guys to this class.

We need shooters, and if I am Coach Murphy, I take a gamble and try to sign Jamyryn Jackson a 6'4" shooting guard out of Lansing Everett. He put on one of the best shooting displays I've seen from a highschool player in a long time. He can not go to the rim like Raven Lee, but he might be able to shoot with him. He consistently hit threes over opposing players that couldnt deny him the ball.

We are loaded in the front court and when teams double down on the post, Jackson and Lee could make teams pay.

Very nice shooter!

RE: Unofficial Men's Off Season Thread
O/T Oakland takes a fmr. OSU (Okla State) player (PG). He 'left' OSU and went JUCO and now going to Oakland.

"Former Oklahoma State guard Stevie Clark has committed to Oakland, source told ESPN. Spent last season in junior college."

Teams are still working OT (overtime) trying to complete their rosters. The commitments have not begin to slow down.

Oakland has taken chances on a number of players with 'checkered' pasts... This guy and Martez Walker in the last 18 months.

Oakland has taken a lot of transfers in recent years.

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/colleg.../83985500/

BTW, I try not to panic, but some players I'd love to see at EMU committed elsewhere in the last day or two. Fmr. target Maishe Dailey (Ohio) (reclassified back to 2016) went to Iowa. Jalen Johnson, a high major type recruit, from Baton Rouge went to St. Louis.

Those two, plus Clark, if we would take a chance on him, are the type of recruits we need to put us over the top.

https://youtu.be/eP9MZdCCi_8 (Clark is #5 at the end. Oh, my. And there are all-stars on that tape. Now in the NBA).

I'm still pretty O/T but I'm fascinated by what's happening or not happening in A2, with UofM hoops.

Have no idea what is happening with the assistant coaches. Thought it was set. Now???

I thought Jermaine Jackson (UDM) has going to UofM? No? He is the father of top PG senior to be in MI this fall, Jermaine Jackson Jr.

UofM seems to be struggling to fill out their roster. I'm not sure the team we'll see in 6 months will look like say MSU. It could be a 'work in progress.'

Tight market for those transfers with immediate eligibity usually the juco ranks is where we find our players wonder what's going in that area?

I went through the verbalcommits.com list and found about 50 uncommitted with immediate eligibility (it is easy to the sort the list by clicking on the column heading)

That might be high as undoubtedly some have committed that they missed.

Maybe a dozen who are legitimate MAC prospects????

I do, however, agree that everyday a few more JUCO, transfer or h.s. prospects commit to some school and the list of suitable players diminishes...

That said, if we get a PG who can play now and a transfer sitout, any position, I would be happy.

The improvement in the 2016/17 team will probably come from maturation of JT4, Bond, Nobles, etc. + the 3 big men sitouts.

I don't see a new signee who can start as necessary.

RE: Unofficial Men's Off Season Thread
This is another of those O/T articles which is kind of on topic, at least, marginally...

http://www.freep.com/story/sports/colleg.../84185336/

Paris Bass at UDM is finished at UDM supposedly because of academics. Since we play UDM annually, it is relevant.

I wonder if EMU would consider him as a transfer sitout with a 2nd chance on he does the academics? I assume he is a 2 years to play one. I believe he has used 3 of his 5 years given by the NCAA.

Jalen Gibson was discussed as a late recruiting target by local mid-majors last year. He did not pan out at UDM.

Stone and Gibson may be likely junior college players next year.

Good suggestion.

JUCO is good for players who don't get minutes OR have academic issues OR both.

Excellent for 2nd chances.

RE: Unofficial Men's Off Season Thread
This is an interesting comment from Jon Rothstein (CBS Sports) on the effect (presumably) of an 18 game conference schedule on NCAA bids by the A-10.

The hypothesis is that the A-10 HURT itself by going from 16 --> 18 conference games.

Why: Less OCC wins. Better to go 2 - 0 vs. OOC rather than say 1 - 1 or heaven forbid, 0 - 2, within conference with those two extra games.

"Word of the Atlantic 10 meetings this past week in Naples is that the league is likely going to stay at 18 conference games instead of switching back to 16. An 18-game league schedule has been in place for each of the last two seasons and the Atlantic 10 only had a combined six bids in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments. During the two years prior, a 16-game league schedule led a combined 11 bids. Just saying."

Would an A-10 bubble team prefer an additional two home games against inferior competition or do one home and one away conference game?

Here is an article about the angst being felt by B1G basketball coaches over all of the transfers (and yes, NBA early outs).

RE: Unofficial Men's Off Season Thread
One of the things I've found surprising is that a fair number of players from mid-major conferences with ppg of say 6 are transferring to high major programs... I would have thought they were candidates for schools like ours...

This is an example:

Jon Rothstein ‏@JonRothstein 19m19 minutes ago
Valpo transfer David Skara has committed to Clemson, source told @CBSSports. Sit one, play two.
