RE: Sun Herald: Could Big 12 expansion send USM to AAC?
Ark State article related to this....I think Ark State is a no brainer for CUSA if we lose someone.
Quote:Another benefit of a growing budget is positioning itself in case another round of conference realignment happens.
The Big 12 is exploring whether to add two schools and hold a conference championship football game. According to reports, Cincinnati, Memphis and Central Florida, all of the American Athletic Conference, are interested candidates. If that happens, and the shuffling affects the Sun Belt like it did four years ago, would ASU's $29 million budget put it in a better position?
"No question," Mohajir said. "We're in the conversation."
Welch said conference affiliation has been a topic of discussion.
"I wouldn't be telling you the truth if I didn't say that we have aspirations of improving our standing from a conference affiliation standpoint," Welch said. "I'm not sure we've sat back and said, 'This is the conference we want to get into, this is the year we want to do it,' because so much of that is fluid.
"Right now, our goal is to dominate our conference on an annual basis."

However nonsensically it ended--after 100 plus pages--I think USM would be the leading candidate if the AAC were to expand. The AAC commissioner said they would add no one if the AAC lost 2, and add 1 if it lost 1. If that happens, I'm not sure who is available out there who would bring the tradition and history of USM.
If UAB hadn't killed football temporarily, and if they had a firm commitment to a new stadium and expanding the football fanbase I think they would have trumped USM.

This is by Chuck Landon. He is an opinion writer for the Herald Dispatch. If you recall, he is the same one that wrote the article two years ago that ODU didn't deserve to be in CUSA or FBS after you lost to us in football. I think it was something about your stadium and lack of talent to compete. Your fans were rightfully upset.
In short, he writes for click bait. Trust me, I have no idea about realignment, but whenever Chuck writes something the exact opposite happens. The guy is clueless, and our administration pulled his access to our coaches and team. He may be right, but it would be a fluke with no research or foundation other than lucky guess.

I think that is probaby true. Number 45 tv market and number one college football tv market. That is exactly the reason that the Alabama Board of Trustees knifed the program. They did not want another P5 program to grow in the state. They made certain that facilities were crippled.

What he said about ODU is correct. ODU has the largest athletic budget in CUSA and resides in the 42nd largest media market. Those stats indeed make the school more aligned with AAC members. .... and yes, ODU is showing some class by not slutting itself to the AAC. Well, not yet lol

I mean, to be honest, does anyone really think that there's one team in C-USA that hasn't at least been in contact with the AAC about membership?

I never said he got the budget numbers wrong or ODU is not a candidate for expansion. What I said was don't ever count on any information you get from Landon. As you can see, two years ago he was writing ODU doesn't have the facilities or talent to be in FBS. Now, he is writing your likely to go to the AAC.
Landon writes to pander for attention. He is an ass.

At the time, anybody could be let in so here we are?
Or how about, to piss off sports message board posters?
Maybe Banowsky has a house in OBX and wanted to make sure if ECU left he still had a "business" case for the conference to pay for his flight?

Landon writes to pander for attention. He is an ass.
I read the first article. He made one comment about ODU then went into the game highlights.
" Old Dominion has a ways to go. In every way. Most notably, in talent, coaching and facilities. "
That's not too far fetched. There's nothing there that ODU fans haven't said themselves. Not only did our fans think that Foreman Field was outdated, they also argued that our coaching staff wasn't up to FBS standards. The article pretty much said our defense sucked. No argument there. We're improving but it may take us some time due to years of neglect. Having the 8th best recruiting class in CUSA isn't helping either.
Click bait? Is it ok for an employee of a profit seeking company to actually do his job? He hasn't been accused of defamation of character has he? What about fabricated stories?
I hear Landon's fallen out of favor with the Herd. I can't believe a tough football team like Marshall gets their feelings hurt and bans him. We have a guy like him. His name is Bob Molinaro and he's made unflattering comments about ODU. Last time I checked, he wasn't banned from anything related to ODU football.
Good Luck:)
