RE: Basketball 1/31-2/6
Ohio blows a 18 point lead in the second half on their home floor. That is the third time Ohio blew a second half lead of 18 points or more this season. Bobcats come unglued real fast. They do have some talent. Phillips needs to do a much better job of using timeouts to stop other teams runs. This was very similar to the Tulsa, Toledo and Bowling Green games where Bobcats had a full blown disaster for ten minutes or more in the second half. Bobcats were fortunate they played lights out in the first half to build the big lead.

Ball State hit 15 of 30 3-point shots today and defeated Western Michigan 75-71 in overtime. Power forward Franko House had an incredible 9 assists. The win puts the Cards in a tie for the West lead with Central Michigan at 6-4.

Buffalo fell behind by 15 early and spent the rest of the game climbing back into it. For a while in the second half we would pull to a single score and then be back down by ten.
Eventually UB got the lead and wins by ten.

Pretty solid numbers. Akron easily lost 1,000 people due to the game being moved to Friday night (TV), the Cavs being at home (against Boston) and going up against a dozen or so big, late-season HS games in the area.
The Zips have played just one Saturday home game in MAC play, and it was against Miami. And they just have one more and its against BG. Talk about bad schedule luck. Still, I'd be a bit surprised if they are under 4,500 the rest of the way. BG will still be 4,500 plus since its a Saturday and both Ohio and Buffalo will be big midweek crowds. Kent will still sell out even in a Friday (and TV).

If he has a bad game very hard for Ohio to win. He has been very up and very down in MAC play. He is just a sophomore. As he gets more consistent Ohio should improve, but Akron really dominated the Ohio backcourt last nite.
Ohio is interesting. If I had to pick a trio of players from a single team in the MAC I would probably go with Ohio and Simmons/Kamintski/Campbell. Beyond that though there's not much I like about their roster. I don't think a championship is in the cards but still they can do some damage down the stretch.
Good trio but Ohio does have some nice young players in the freshman and sophomore class. Freshman Jordan Dartus stepped up big yesterday and fellow freshman Gavin Block has had several solid games. The great news is all the players you mentioned have another year. Having 2 coaches move on resulted in 2 lost recruiting classes and is the primary reason for Ohio's on court dip in performance. Personally I would still be satisfied with a 10-8 or even 9-9 MAC record this year as long as the team is peaking in the end and makes a competitive run in the MAC Tourny. I feel like next season Ohio has shot to make a push in the east.

It was nice to see the Convo rocking yesterday but sadly 8,773 for a sibs weekend was a little disappointing. Usually that's a gauranteed crowd of 10,000 plus. Additionally I have been disappointed with the actual butts in seats for the Bobcats this year. Season ticket sales pretty much always guarantee a pretty attendance number in the box score but it's the actual body count that creates the atmosphere. I know it will be back once the Bobcats get going again. The Miami game is in a couple weeks and I remember the days of the Convo doors being closed because it was standing room only at 13,000. Of course that's when both schools ruled the east. Not only was it standing room in Athens but I made a few road trips to Oxford and the place was absolutely packed!!!
Good times!
