RE: Basketball 1/31-2/6
Raven Lee was stopped tonight by the only man who could stop him, his coach. Taken out of the game with 6 minutes to go and 46 points (school record is 47). As a Miami fan, I was sad to see him go out, the kid did not deserve that. What difference does it make to Miami if we lose by 40 instead of 30? Lee was 9 of 11 on threes. He also set out quite a bit in the first half.

Buffalo wins on the road vs NIU 90-78, improves to 6-3 after playing 6 of their first 9 MAC games on the road. They could realistically finish 12-6 just by defending home court here on out.

Murphy said after the game that he had no clue Raven was one basket shy of the record and wouldve left him in a possession or two longer had he known.
46 points in 24 minutes is absolutely ridiculous. Don't think I've seen anything like it at the college level.

Raven Lee is the biggest enigma I've observed in55 years of following the MAC.

Only real close game tonight has been in Bowling Green. Ball State up 68-64 with 0:49 left.
Final score wasnt close but Akron and Ohio was a 5pt game with less than 4 minutes left.

This might be the most interesting season the MAC has had for many years. So much parity. Saturday East teams beat West teams 3 games to 1. Tuesday West teams beat Easts teams 3 games to 1.

Yeah, Akron-Ohio wasn't a blowout. Ohio had a couple shots to take the lead in the second half. Still, Akron led (or was tied) for like 39 minutes. And like the Ball State game, only reason it ended up not a 15 point road win was due to Akron not defending in the final seconds and giving up 5-6 easy points (both teams hit a garbage three as well near the buzzer). Though OU did foul a couple times with the game out of reach. The one on Simmons was a definite, get me out of this game, frustration one.
Regardless, Akron made the plays when it mattered in both games.

For the life of me I cannot choose these MAC pickem games right! I go .500 every week without fail! Last nights games mostly finished in blow outs... How weird. My predictions of 15-3 conference leaders Kent and NIU have already been smashed. CMU and UB have caught fire tho!

Yes. For a while, Baker was saving the day with accurate 3-point shooting. Now he's gone cold (most of his career he was cold) and no one else has stepped up. The freshmen, particularly Wilson, are stepping up some, but not enough. We didn't need much for the OOC schedule, other than Missouri and Ohio State, we could get away with spotty, inconsistent play. Not now. Still missing a lot of short, easy shots, reminiscent of the years when we won 5 games.

Ohio needs more consistent play from their point guard to win. Simmons is the straw that stirs the drink. If he has a bad game very hard for Ohio to win. He has been very up and very down in MAC play. He is just a sophomore. As he gets more consistent Ohio should improve, but Akron really dominated the Ohio backcourt last nite.

Ohio is interesting. If I had to pick a trio of players from a single team in the MAC I would probably go with Ohio and Simmons/Kaminski/Campbell. Beyond that though there's not much I like about their roster. I don't think a championship is in the cards but still they can do some damage down the stretch.

Mike Laster, a sophomore guard that averaged 12minutes a game last year as a freshman reserve started the season 3rd on the team in most career minutes played. Ohio is talented but super inexperienced, thus the inconsistent results. With only 1 senior this year the expectations for a championship are looking towards 2017, not this year.
BUT, with that said, if they get hot in Cleveland they could be a headache for somebody. Shades of 2010. Or they could crash in the first round, who knows.

Interesting thought but I wouldn't include Kaminski in my three. He's hampered by a bad shoulder (shooting) so he's got an excuse but he's been very erratic shooting this year. That and his slight indifference to defense makes him a little frustrating. Personally I feel better when freshman Gavin Block is in there. But Kaminski is the type of shooter who could just go off in the MAC tourney much like Armon Bassett did in 2010. Keeping the fingers crossed.

Ohio wins, splits the series with NIU. Both teams won on their home court by the score of 80-69.
