If I could buy stock in Jessica Chastain, I would. She'll be an all time great. Damon, Kate Mara, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Mackenzie Davis, all good. I could have done without Kristen Wiig (she isn't believable to me in anything outside of comedy) and Donald Glover (who took his character way over the top, and it came off cheesy), but that's only a minor gripe.
Sorry, what was the problem again?
Wiig was horrible. My problem was it was touted as being scientifically accurate. I thought it was pure fking fantasy. I agree though it had a good cast and was entertaining.
If they casted an Asian for the leading role you wouldn't get ticket sales from women and 16-year-old girls who will watch anything with Matt Damon in it.
If Hollywood had cast an Asian and the movie flopped folks would have just said Hollywood cast the wrong Asian. There is no reasoning with folks that wake up each day just to be offended. No matter what anyone tries to do, those folks will ALWAYS be offended. I've found it's best to just ignore those loons.

I thought it was "good" also...as long as I was willing to totally go syfy and escape reality. I don't care what scientists were used....I don't believe a fraction of it could ever be reality. The countless variables outside of equations and theory that exist to achieve such a thing made this mere fantasy to me. I admit thought it was entertaining.
I tend to just enjoy a movie and disregard anything not being factual, etc. I feel sorry for folks that nitpick everything that couldn't be true. It's a movie, it's not supposed to be reality.
In somewhat related news, Michael Jackson will be played by white actor Joseph Fiennes in an upcoming film. In fairness the movie is set in his later life and I can see a resemblance. In one of the comments on the article someone posted "It'll be funny if he wins an Oscar for his performance" I LOL'd
I heard they wanted to cast Russell Brand as MLK Jr in Selma, but changed their mind at the last second.
Yeah, I tend to brush off the whole Oscar/race thing and quibbles about the Martian. But if I were a casting director, I would've opted for a lighter skinned black guy for Michael Jackson. I can sorta understand those going "huh?" at this one.
