I thought this was going to be about hyping a movie beyond its real value. I thought it was just OK..not outstanding.

Good movie. Watched it this weekend while stuck in a cabin with two feet of snow outside. We really need to get beyond race.

Very rare when Hollywood ever stays true to a book in any shape or form, but that's besides the point.

Right or wrong, Hollywood uses white 'name' actors to maximize its audience and subsequently its bottom line. The same reason why the Bachelor/ette reality series hasn't had a non-white lead yet. They want appeal to the largest market as possible.

Hollywood is a paradox. It's overwhelmingly left-leaning. But despite all the touchy feely kumbaya they try to portray, that industry is as competitive and profit driven as any.

They are always too PC to not boot off the Non White contenders that really might not have a shot until late in the game to Not look racist. Then They always seem Pissed when They do get the Boot. Who knows though One Non White Guy/Gal might make it to the end someday.

My thought was it was the book that took liberties. The movie corrected them.

I don't want to repeat a post if it's been made elsewhere, but I just read (for real I believe) that Joseph Fiennes is playing Michael Jackson in a TV movie that will air later this year. It's an odd film about Jackson, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor fleeing New York in a car after 9/11.

Of course, Jackson was probably more white than black, but I wonder if there will be some backlash about a white actor portraying Jackson?

I thought it was "good" also...as long as I was willing to totally go syfy and escape reality. I don't care what scientists were used....I don't believe a fraction of it could ever be reality. The countless variables outside of equations and theory that exist to achieve such a thing made this mere fantasy to me. I admit thought it was entertaining.

The cast was a veritable who's who, and I thought it was awesome.

If I could buy stock in Jessica Chastain, I would. She'll be an all time great. Damon, Kate Mara, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Mackenzie Davis, all good. I could have done without Kristen Wiig (she isn't believable to me in anything outside of comedy) and Donald Glover (who took his character way over the top, and it came off cheesy), but that's only a minor gripe.
