OT: Gronk says missed PAT cost the Patriots the game
This will probably get moved but I wanted it to see light on the main board where the most people could see it.

What a joke, he acts as if it was the last play of the game and the Patriots had no chance to retaliate. any number of different dynamics could have sung the game between 7-6 after the PAT to the 20-18 final.

Edit: it wasn't Gronk who said it, so my bad.

Hey, it's more noble than calling out the zebras for that clutch Denver defenders had on the guy in the endzone. He would have a point with that one, of course a few dollars shaved off his paycheck, too.

This gets old, the lack of enforcement on intereference. Seems to be a narrative for over a decade now. This has been getting obnoxious and distracting in the playoffs far enough. They don't eat their whistles in the regular season, so follow through.

Pats should have kicked a field goal instead of going for it on 4th down. But that is all hindsight.

RE: OT: Gronk says missed PAT cost the Patriots the game
Interesting. What are the odds of

going for it on 4th down and making it,
then scoring a TD,
Then getting a 2 pt conversion
Then scoring again before Denver does to break the tie

Vs the odds of

Making a FG
Stopping Denver
Scoring a TD and making the extra pt

I don't know but it seems like just kicking the FG gives the team a better chance of winning.

The bottom line is that you can't blame the kicker missing the PAT any more than blaming the refs for a blown call. There's plenty of time to overcome that stuff. If it was a consistent problem that costs them games over time or even in this one game, I could see it but not one kick so early in the game.

Um, where did you see that Gronkowski said that? I can't find that anywhere. I do see that the kicker Gostkowski said that his missed extra point cost the Patriots the game.

Maybe you are getting the "kowski's" mixed up?

That wasn't hindsight...I was saying it in real time...

Everything about the game cost the Pats. My friends and I gave up cheering in the 2nd quarter and started taking shots.

This just goes to prove that, one again, basic reading comprehension remains elusive for some here. The person making the statement was the kicker himself - Stephen Gostkowski - not Gronk.

When you miss an extra point it can cost you a game. So, yes, it had an impact on the result. That is why they moved the extra point back....

What the OP was referring to is when such a thing happens in the first quarter, you have time to make up for it. Of course what he didn't pay attention to, was the kicker was blaming himself, not the TE blaming him.

What's more, he goes on to criticize Gronk directly....for something he never said and the OP misunderstood.

FWIW, I have some sympathy for the OP. The first time or two I saw the headline on ESPN yesterday, I thought it was GRONK saying it too, not the kicker blaming himself.

Long Polish names that start with G and end with "ski" can look alike, LOL.

You're right, + 3. That's a rare circumstance I don't have my facts straight.

I am sorry, but a missed PAT at the beginning of the game didn't lose them the game.... even if the kicker believes that. They had the entire rest of the game to make up the points.

Had he missed multiple kicks and botched some kickoffs leading to bad field position, I could see it but it was a rare miss on his part.

Yeah, he's beating himself up a bit too much over this. It's not entirely on him.

RE: OT: Gronk says missed PAT cost the Patriots the game
Not even close to being entirely on the kicker.

The Patriots missed on two fourth downs in the 4th quarter in Denver territory before the one on which they scored in the last minute of the game.

If the Pats had kicked a FG instead of going for it on 4th down with about 5 minutes left, they would have reduced the lead to 5, and given that their D shut down the Broncos' O for the entire 2nd half, the Pats would have gotten the ball back trailing by only 5 (instead of 8) with 2 or 3 minutes left.
