Drexel - Game Thread
Wow, I didn't realize Flemmings had that many FTs, and I was there! I've never heard of a player doing something like that; 1-3 from the field but having 17 pts on the day. What an impact he's making.

I actually was OK with how Gettys played. His presence helped prevent Drexel from eating us alive on the boards, and more importantly, he helped get their big men in foul trouble, since they had few other ways to stop him than fouling when he went up with it.

Agree fully with your assessment of Ponder. He's a Shooting/scoring guard and should be off the ball 90 % of the time.

RE: Drexel - Game Thread
If the Drexel players were smart, they'd let Gettys shoot instead of fouling. He isn't that bad, I just think he gums up our offense when he's in the game. I also think he creates a lot of rebounds for the other team since he can't grab the ball. He tends to get a paw on the ball because of his height, but he always bobbles it and it end up being up for grabs. We aren't tall as a team, and when the rebound stays in the post, we don't tend to get it.

He did a very good job of defending without fouling every time for the first time I can remember. he also looked good at the FT line.

I think Keatt realizes we'll need his size against some of the bigger CAA teams. CofC, JMU and NU all have beefy post players. If I played him, it would only be with a good scorer at the 4. I think pairing Gettys with Sherwood at the 4 would work better than Bryan.

Keatts must have an overall plan with Gettys but what I don't understand is not giving him much of any court time prior to conference play. Especially given the games where we've blown opponents out. I wasn't at the game today, but I can't imagine he's up to speed concerning game pace conditioning.

RE: Drexel - Game Thread
I'll take Gettys' 6 blocks and a number of times he caused them to redirect their shots into misses. And I'll still leave the pt decisions to coach Keatts. I realized a long time ago I am not going to agree with or understand all decisions. But as long as the program is finally moving in the right direction, I'm a happy Seahawk.

Ditto.

The reason the big guy has not played until recently is because he had not met weight/conditioning goals.
Good job today CJ.

RE: Drexel - Game Thread
My man has been coming off the bench all year and has 6 blocks after walling up and not reaching and y'all are bitching. Well, I'm not in that camp at all. CJ did well and really helped the team out today. I was thinking before the year that it would be a 2 headed monster at the true 5 anyways but Bryan has been the main guy thus far. It's a team game and you have to let Keatts do what he can. I trust him. He gets guys playing to their best and PT is not guaranteed with him unless you're way better and are owning it.

What about my man Talley? Who has been his biggest fan from the get go? Yes, that would be me. Great player. He's the straw that stirs the drink. How many great passes did he have today? GREAT PG that defends and wins. Onto NE....and that's going to be some kind of game with their talent and UNCW's talent. I'm going to visit my parents that day/night but hope to listen to some that game on the way back to Raleigh from Wilmington. That would be a nice win and I'm sure that UNCW will play a tough game either way. CJ Bryce and Chris Flemmings are really playing well! One more thing...get off Ponder. He's been terrific for a long time and has been the reason why the Hawks have won many a game. Anybody remember the Delaware game last year? He stepped up HUGE in that game! And, he has big heart too.

Not what I have heard at all. He played pretty good but he is still overweight and I think always will be.

BS! He is not overweight. He has met his agreement with Keatts. He had to be down to 265 before he could touch the floor. I don't know if there were other factors in him not playing sooner, and neither do you. You are always "hearing" something. And it's funny how it is always something negative. Gettys' is a roll player on this team and he played his roll very well yesterday. There will be some teams that he will not match up with, but Deexel was long and physical. And he helped equalize some of that problem. Just move on to your next rumor.

I don't think many of us are bitching. I'm glad he played well in his first significant chance at playing time.

We all love Talley, but yes. You're his biggest fan. Nobody bags on Talley. I think we'd all rather seem him at the 1 than Ponder.

Speaking of Ponder, nobody dislikes him or anything like that. We just see the role he best suits the team in, and it's not the point. Especially during CAA play. We saw that last year. Ponder plays a little decent PG until the CAA games come around. I think we'll see him fully rotate back to the 2 soon. He's an amazing shooter, but not as effective at the 1.

CJ Gettys was a force on defense last night! Blocks and altered shots created major problems for Drexel's game plan. Loved the play of Talley, Flemmings and Bryce too! Good start for the second season. Now Saturday will be a good test!

I guess I was blowing smoke...Had the halves switched but damn was I close (nearly exact). Difference again was fouls and foul shots, which again us fouling a lot is as normal as the sun coming up

Methinks 33 got his threads crossed. I think he's talking about the spring training baseball banquet.

He played well and should get more time but NO doubt he is overweight.
I am guessing his weight could go from 265 to 280 overnight and to base anything just on weight alone would be something out of the stone age.

You were the one harping in his weight. I said I didn't know all the factors holding him out. But you either have not been to a game or you're just that biased. He's 7 ft tall. He is not fat. And he has been a factor on the floor when used in those particular situations. Sorry you can't register things to fit your arguments.

Yes indeed. That was meant for the baseball thread. Sorry.

Chris Flemmings made 1 field goal, made 15 free throws, and had 17 points. Having at least 17 points and at most 1 field goal made was done in the NBA only five times since 1963-1964.

Interesting stat, but the new, tightly called games make something like this less likely to be a rarity.
