They aren't the big, bruising squads of the past, and 4 of their top 5 scorers are freshmen and sophomores. I wouldn't be surprised if we play them like Campbell with Flemmings at the 4.

This game worries me a bit.

If we lose it'll be all dan10's fault. The more he keeps saying they'll be lucky to win any CAA game the more paranoid I get that he's just attempting one large anti-jinx to screw us over.

I appreciate the concern of the anti-jinx and all but everything I have said is honest and not fluff in either direction. We are not an awful team, but we are not good or even close to good. We do not do anything particularly well, other than foul. We hang around in games and fall apart in second halves because of fouls or lack of properly used depth (Bru is a long time fan of 6 or 7 maximum players seeing real time regardless of roster)

Our "star" or "talented" player Tavon Allen would be better off to stop shooting the ball...ever. If he did that we would be a better team because he is a dreadful shooter (literally one of the bottom 5 in various offensive metrics in ALL of the country last year and has continued to be only slightly better than that this year). He loves the mid-range jumper and the long-range, but not quite a 3, jumper. We will win a few games because we just always split with some teams. My guess is 4 wins (UD, Elon, Towson and some upset somewhere likely NU or HU). Per my prediction in an above post I think 13 is about the right line with it being nearly even at half.

Drexel is terrible, worst mid major I have seen this year. LSU takes the top spot for worst P5 team by far. They have decent talent but are beyond bad.

Gettys starting?!

I don't get it. So what was the deal with him sitting so much early on?

He likely hadn't hit his weight goals until recently. Plus Chuck seems to be hurt.

Chuck being hurt is probably the main reason then.

Chuck getting ready to enter, nice. Need him on the boards right now. Drexel has used their size to collect a bunch of offensive rebounds and putbacks.

Nevertheless we're up 7, 9:00 left in the half.

We put up 41 on a pretty good defensive team. Not bad at all.

Sloppy, ton of turnovers gettin killed on the boards. Letting an inferior team hang around. Bright side not jacking a ton of threes

Looks like we pulled away at the end here and should hang on. Letting inferior teams hang around is what hurt WM today. We have to do a better job of not letting that happen more.

Luckily, we got Drexel as our opener. Time to prepare for NU!!!

RE: Drexel - Game Thread
Went to the game and here's my observations:

1. Chris Flemmings has POY written all over him. Is there anything he can't
do? Drives, dishes, jumpers, defense, 3 pointers, steals. In a game where he only had 3 official shots, he scores 17 points by draining a school record tying 15-16 FT's. Love every aspect of his game. Oh, and when is the last time one of our guys went as hard as he did for the high flying dunk?

2. Ponder does not need to handle the ball. Five turnovers, with 4 of them just dribbling off his foot it seemed. Bad passes, bad decisions. He doesn't need to run our offense.

3. I don't get the PT Gettys is getting now. It was fun watching him block several shots in the post, but he is a huge liability when he's on the floor. His hands are terrible, which results in terrible rebounding, and the inability to bring in a pass for what should be easy dunks. Also, because he is so big, and camps in the paint, he clogs up the middle for our guards driving and for other rebounders to get involved. I thought our offense looked awful every time he came in the game. The combination of Gettys and Bryan in the post was terrible. Five points and four rebounds from a Junior 7 footer is 20 minutes? I also thought his presence killed our offensive rebounding. He'd get his hands on a ball, but bobble it around, usually into the hands of a Drexel player.

4. CJ Bryce is incredible already. Can't imagine his game by the time he's a Senior.

5. We need Talley on the court to distribute and defend, but he is not a big time scorer. When he plays along with Gettys and Bryan our offense is very limited.

We won, but the starting lineup Keatts put on the floor was not a good combination. It left all the scoring to Ponder and Bryce, with Gettys, Bryan and Talley playing their roles, which is not scoring. I kept waiting for the starters to get off the court so we could stretch the lead.

I realize Keatts has to keep some scorers available at all times, but we really looked bad with certain lineups.

We'd better shape this up, or NU will eat our lunch Saturday night.
