like Kiel he was the victim of a team with a weak defense. Look back at the stats and you will see that Cook greatly improved from his junior to senior year.

Cook his junior year 45.3 completion pct 7 TDS 14 ints.

Cook as senior 53.3 pct 25 TDS 17 ints

Kiel this year 62.2 pct 19 TDS 11 ints

I saw Greg play and Gunner is no Greg Cook.

I never said he was ; not many QB's ever had Cook's physical potential . I saw every home game he played as a Bengal. Minus his injury the Bengals history might have been greatly altered.

Tony Pike probably would have gone to NYC as a Heisman finalist if he doesn't get hurt in 2009. He's the only guy in recent history I'd take over Kiel. Keep in mind Pike, Mauk, Grutza, and Collaros had way better coaching.

1. Play right away
2. Already know the system
3. Already know the coaches
4. Can't be any worse than they have been
5. Showcase his talent against top SEC talent

Here he'll have
1. New coaches
2. New playbook
3. None of the top receivers from last year
4. Tuberville

Yes, but I think the perception of him never being committed to something would outweigh all of that. Constant flip flopping and never seeing anything through just raises more questions about character.

People who keep saying this must not pay attention to professional sports. If you have the talent, all else will be ignored, period. especially if you have the capability of being a franchise QB in the NFL.

On a side note, the next person that I see write GunnAr instead of GunnEr will become the 3rd person I've ever blocked in my time here.

Yes, and I think that's why it's tricky for some around here. I've had to double check it myself to recall who spells it how.

I never was as big a fan of Pike as some on this board... Tony had "happy feet" and never seemed to get settled. When he did, his throws were spectacular (like that first TD in the Orange Bowl), but he danced around a lot and his accuracy suffered.

"Pound-for-Pound" I'd say Mauk was the BEST quarterback we had in the post-2000 years. But he was a well-developed kid when we got him. I wish he could have gotten that medical waiver.

In second place, I'd put Zach Collaros. I think he really developed as time went on. Not a rocket arm, but he developed a feel for the game and a touch.

Third, probably would be Brendan Kay. Tough kid, took more chances on the ground than I would have preferred. Injuries hurt his ranking.

Fourth, I'd put Kiel, and that's not a knock on him really. When he's healthy, I think that he throws a really nice deep ball.

Fifth, I'd put Gino Guidugli. He threw it around a lot, but there were a lot of jump balls in there.

The next batch of kids were simply hampered by sub-par physical issues:

Sixth, I'd go with Dustin Grutza. TONS of heart and plenty of smarts, but not much arm to go on... But boy, did he make the most of what he had.

Seventh, Munchie Legaux. Again, heart and guts galore, but that throwing motion gave me a heart attack every time he slung the ball around. But a helluva kid.

Eighth, Nick Davila (aka "that left handed kid that won the International Bowl" though he didn't "win" the bowl seeing as we had a nice lead with Grutza before BK pulled Grutza in the 2nd to play Davila, and then put Grutza back in the 4th to finish a game that was a helluva lot closer than it ever should have been...) For whatever reason Davila never got a lot of playing time though he was reported to be a "high potential" JUCO kid.

I guess you could also throw in Frazier who came in with Collaros and started the Marshall game in the famous "5 QB season" of 2008 but then you're just kind of grasping at straws.

Davila put on a show in the win over undefeated Rutgers in 2006. He'll be remembered for that game. And now he is the Joe Montana of Arena League.

Also, who is Frazier? Do you mean Chazz Anderson?

Not over Colt McCoy and Tebow. The throw that Pike made to Binns at Pitt. Gunner can make that throw from the opposite hash and 20 yards farther. Guys like Rivers, Dalton, Brees can't make that throw.

It is not the end of the world, as I can easily name 5 recent QBs that were much better than him.

1. Dustin Grutza
2. Ben Mauk
3. Zach Collaros
4. The lefty QB who won the International Bowl for us....
5. Tony Pike

Let him go. He knows we are losing basically our entire receiving corps, and wants out, to "impress" the NFL scouts..... Ultimately, he will be lucky to get a free agent try-out.

Of course, forgot Brandon Kay.... what a great ending to his career at the Belk Bowl!

I watched the Belk/Duke game recently to remember what it was like to win a bowl game.

Despite how Tubs pronounced it, we have never had a QB named Brandon Kay.

Won the turnover battle 4 or 5-0 and Kay had a good game running for about 70 yards.
But if Kiel runs, awful coaching lol

Why are people assuming Gunner is leaving? With his off-field issues, I would think he'd be best off staying where he's at with the support he has surrounding him. I would think a transfer would be the last thing on his mind at this point.

It actually depends... If his "off-the-field issues" were prompted and promoted by the people around him in Cincinnati, it might be healthier to get out of that system.

We don't really know what's going on with Gunner. I'm not saying he should leave, but it's also not beyond understanding why he might.

I guess that makes sense. I would imagine there is support in place now to help him with this issue, plus he's close to family here. I just think transferring at this point would have to be one of the last things on his mind. Who knows.

1) Some of Kay's runs were pass plays where Kay escaped and picked up good yardage. His 3rd and 10 scramble from our own end zone to pick up a first down was huge in that game

2) Kay was a MUCH better runner than Kiel.
