I never was as big a fan of Pike as some on this board... Tony had "happy feet" and never seemed to get settled. When he did, his throws were spectacular (like that first TD in the Orange Bowl), but he danced around a lot and his accuracy suffered.
"Pound-for-Pound" I'd say Mauk was the BEST quarterback we had in the post-2000 years. But he was a well-developed kid when we got him. I wish he could have gotten that medical waiver.
In second place, I'd put Zach Collaros. I think he really developed as time went on. Not a rocket arm, but he developed a feel for the game and a touch.
Third, probably would be Brendan Kay. Tough kid, took more chances on the ground than I would have preferred. Injuries hurt his ranking.
Fourth, I'd put Kiel, and that's not a knock on him really. When he's healthy, I think that he throws a really nice deep ball.
Fifth, I'd put Gino Guidugli. He threw it around a lot, but there were a lot of jump balls in there.
The next batch of kids were simply hampered by sub-par physical issues:
Sixth, I'd go with Dustin Grutza. TONS of heart and plenty of smarts, but not much arm to go on... But boy, did he make the most of what he had.
Seventh, Munchie Legaux. Again, heart and guts galore, but that throwing motion gave me a heart attack every time he slung the ball around. But a helluva kid.
Eighth, Nick Davila (aka "that left handed kid that won the International Bowl" though he didn't "win" the bowl seeing as we had a nice lead with Grutza before BK pulled Grutza in the 2nd to play Davila, and then put Grutza back in the 4th to finish a game that was a helluva lot closer than it ever should have been...) For whatever reason Davila never got a lot of playing time though he was reported to be a "high potential" JUCO kid.
I guess you could also throw in Frazier who came in with Collaros and started the Marshall game in the famous "5 QB season" of 2008 but then you're just kind of grasping at straws.
