Gunner Kiel
This is completely speculative and based on nothing...but I saw that Gunner Kiel officially graduated UC yesterday. Does anyone think that Kiel could move on for his senior season? As a graduate he'd be eligible to play immediately anywhere and I'm sure at least a dozen P5 schools would take him. Good OL and coaching could certainly help his tanking draft stock.

I dont wish for this to happen but just thinking out loud that maybe its a possibility?

He graduated because he had that year off. He isn't going anywhere.

I could see a lower tier P5 school like say Illinois or Kansas (no idea of their QB situstion) showing interest, but neither situation will help him pad his stats getting killed.

I would say if he is not named the starter coming out of Spring ball, he may weigh his options.

I could see him transferring to a Wisconsin similar to Russell Wilson

Unless he transfers somewhere with a "QB whisperer" type of coach, Kiel going elsewhere will only further expose his growth opportunities. I like the kid, but he has yet to show me the talent that should go with being the #1 QB in his class at the time.[/i]

RE: Gunner Kiel
I think if Kiel moved on, he would cut his NFL chances as it would add another school he moved to and the NFL would continue to wonder if he is a cancer or afraid of competition, etc. I don't see him going anywhere.

I don't think he has much of a chance to get into the NFL. He hasn't shown me anything that would lead me to believe that he should play on Sundays.

Really hoping that Hayden Moore takes the #1 spot. I think he has more potential and gives us a better chance at winning.

I like Gunner as a person, but he just doesn't have it.

Disagree strongly on this. I think Moore's performance against Memphis gave everyone a false sense of how far along he is. He was bad against Miami (OH)and awful against USF. He had a good half against Miami (FL) but really struggled in the second half minus one throw. He was pretty bad against BYU as well. His issues were he seemed uncomfortable in the pocket and held the ball far too long as the season went on. I also don't think he was comfortable with his progressions.

I thought Gunner looked significantly better than Moore most the time. Even against USF where Gunner's two ints early really hurt...they weren't bad decision ints (like Moore's). He simply sailed a couple of passes, which happens. I just thought he made better decisions, looked more decisive and had better control of the offense. I think Marcus is right that they sometimes asked too much of Gunner, but he has been really good most the season.

I like Moore and think he'll be really good his JR and SR seasons, but I'd ride Gunner for now.

Agree 100% and he is our best option to reverse our fortunes next year.

RE: Gunner Kiel
Gunner needs to develop more during the off season (doesn't he go to the Manning camp?), mature more (football wise) and hopefully he will come back making better decisions (and not under throwing the ball). I like him as a leader and I think he has the physical intangibles. Moore is a really nice backup plan who will be very good his JR and SR years. I think we need to ride Gunner though. How's the OL looking for next year? I think that will have more of an impact on our team/QB situation than Gunner, along with further development of Tion Green and Mike Boone. Keep Gunner healthy, and not afraid, run the ball, give the defense some more weapons and another year of development, and we are in good shape.

RE: Gunner Kiel
Well, we can agree to disagree. The only thing Gunner has on Hayden is experience. Gunner is more comfortable with the offense due to maturity. I think Hayden's junior and senior seasons will far surpass anything Gunner does here.

What I like most about Hayden is that he's a competitor and has the swagger this team needs. Every time Gunner is out there he looks overwhelmed.

RE: Gunner Kiel
I want the best QB to start. I would expect Moore to continue to develop this offseason and leverage his significant game experience this year. We need to simplify the offense for whoever is the QB. There's no need to throw a 15 yard out from the far hash where the ball has to travel 40 yards in the air on 3rd and 4. No need to throw deep ball after deep ball. Use the TE, throw to the RBs, throw slants for crying out loud. I think Kiel can make all the throws when he's on. But you can just feel it when he starts pressing too hard and tries to do too much. With him, it's purely mental and I'm not sure if he'll ever be able to squash some of those issues. But if he has a great offseason (better than Moore) then he should start next year.

RE: Gunner Kiel
Gunner has much better pocket awareness. The sack rate had to dramatically increase when Moore came in. I concur with everyone that I love Moore's long term potential but Gunner gives us the best chance to win next year

RE: Gunner Kiel
The OL and defense play needs to improve, otherwise it doesn't matter who the QB is...next year's outcome will be the same as this year's...sacks and points given up.

We lose our two starting tackles. Parker Ehinger has been all-conference two years in a row. Those are big losses IMO. We have a lot of depth and experience in the interior of the line though. Hopefully guys in the system can step up and the JUCO we have recruited in this class is ready to contribute immediately.

Is Ross Trail in the mix for the year after next. Wasn't he a higher rated recruit than Moore. Anyone have knowledge on how he has looked in practice.
