Actually if the Big12 is reaching out to take UConn it makes more sense for them to take UC/ UConn than BYU.
But where is the fun for me????

3 teams would be a weird number for the big 12 to take though.
It will never ever be Southern Miss, they are too close to Tulane which makes no sense and they offer absolutely nothing to the AAC, like absolutely not one positive thing. I think UTSA is more likely considering their market plus ODU for the same reasons and assuming Houston is taken then I would enjoy Rice in this conference with their academic history plus we can keep the Houston market.

It's about as productive a conversation as the other hypotheticals being thrown around here are to the topic...
Also about as productive as Tulane was in bowl season. Weird how that works out =)

If the AAC loses Cincinnati, add NIU and Wichita (non-football).
If the AAC loses Houston, add Rice and VCU (non-football).
If the AAC loses UCONN, party time!

I disagree.
At no point should Rice and NIU be expansion candidates. One is a small private that has shown no sign of athletic life, and the other simply doesn't fit institutionally. I'd put UMASS before either... if UCONN is still in the AAC.
OTOH, if we go down the basketball-only road (IN THE EVENT OF A RAID), we should go big or stay home. Invite all of UMASS, VCU, and Wichita State, and hold fast in football.

UMass does the conference nothing in either revenue sport. NIU should definitely be an expansion candidate. They are one of the best G5 football programs not already in the AAC. Add a good non-football school (Wichita/VCU) to offset their basketball.
Looking at athletic budgets as a factor, then ODU probably needs to get a look. They sellout their small FB stadium every game and usually ok in hoops. They fit in the region of the AAC. If we lose Uconn, I'd just avoid the whole North East because the passion for the most part isn't there in football.
If UCF doesn't make it to the Big 12, it does get scary at the replacements we are talking about.

I'll shake your hand and pat you on the back if you get the call up if you do it with class but most of your fans are being douche bags about getting out of this conference

You know what was rich was the one Cincy fan saying nobody in this conference is good enough to hold Cincys jockstrap besides UConn

Actually NIU basketball is 13-2 (only losses to tOSU and Mizzou both in a close one) and has a current RPI around 75-ish. Our fab freshman look like the real deal and our 4* G has been tearing it up. Even earned national recognition as one of 5 freshman flying under the radar as complete game changers. Our basketball is on the rise =)
We'd definitely be a middle tier-lower half AAC basketball team, but we wouldn't be the drag on the conference that we might have been before this great recruiting class Mark Montgomery brought in

NIU has no shot at future AAC invite...as even NIU enjoying their maybe best ever basketball season, they are averaging just 950 fans (announced attendance) per game.
Even their football program, which has enjoyed a lot of MAC success, can't even average 15,000 fans per game (14,296 announced attendance average this season).

How do you average 950 fans in MBB in Illinois??? That has to be a misprint.

Having your school located in the middle of a corn field some 75 miles from downtown Chicago.
UNI opened up their Convocation Center way back in 2002: (which sadly looks barren on most game days)

NIU might have a few vocal fans but they don't have a fan base. Schools who's football attendance is less than their enrollment blows my mind (especially in that "Chicago market ".) After their last two bowl outings against Marshall and Boise State I think NIU should be happy with what they have in the MAC.

Kind of besides the point but if you read either Chicago daily it's pretty obvious that they are not considered to be in Chicagoland.

No Sunbelt or CUSA teams other than Rice. We want BYU, Air Force,Army ,Rice or ColoradoState. No one from West Coast. Terrible time zone.

None of those schools are coming east except Rice and it seems only Tulane wants Rice.
