Are you saying that you can't define creationism but you know it's wrong?

Like stated above, creationism isn't an actual theory and therefore can mean pretty much anything, much like cryptozoology or paranormal psychology. That they do not have rigid guidelines to what they entail does not mean they are pseudoscience and unable to be dismissed.

But, you knew that, and instead of adding to the discussion in a meaningful way and maybe educating people here who don't know enough about evolutionary theory, you made sure to get in childish dig. Congrats on lowering the bar.

And in this context, we're discussing the most common form of Creationism, which is absolutely at odds evolution. Only one of the five major forms of Creationism accepts evolution as stated.

Even then, there is no scientific framework for creationism, and therefore it's not really a set theory one can argue against. It can move the goalposts at will, and relies purely not on evidence supporting it but instead on trying to poke holes in evolution. Acting as if it is an actual theory gives it legitimacy it doesn't deserve.

That humans were created in their present form. The second most common, that God guided evolution, is still at odds with the theory.

Does Creationism also refer to how the universe started? In that case, it overlaps the areas that Evolution does but goes well beyond it. Might be where some of the confusion comes from. We can argue about those other areas but not from anything related to evolution.

There is no set framework for creationism. It can mean pretty much whatever anyone wants.

Who cares? Polls show what people actually believe, rather than the views of an organization they're affiliated with. The fact of the matter is, an overwhelming majority of creationists hold views that conflict with evolution. When the term Creationism is used in the media, these views are being referred to (Not the small percentage that fully accept evolution).

Yea I was hoping there was a general scope that people on this board were using when they referred to Creationism.

42% of Americans think we were created 10,000 years ago? Great.

It is, but the data makes more sense when you break it down:

That still doesn't make sense to me. I mean, it sorta does, but still scary. The good thing is that the percentage is smaller for younger folks.

They're just going to say it's a product of liberal brainwashing in the education system.

In this case, we literally have a better grasp on reality than previous generations. Some would say that... it's an inconvenient truth.

The world's largest Church doesn't teach that.

Who cares?

1.2 billion people.

Clearly, they don't.

Over 70% of adults in the US hold views that contract evolution to some degree. This argument is retarded - we're talking about Creationism in general, and the numbers clearly show what Creationists believe, in general. The percentage of US churchgoers that completely accept evolution is unbelievably small.

Shifty learned that about the catholic church recently and just wants to make sure we all know it. We do. It's not new, and it doesn't really have any bearing on americans beliefs.

Wow, argument #23454 which has nothing to do with the topic itself. Why stop now?
