Trump is going to run away with this thing if he wins Iowa.

On August 1, if anyone asked me to bet that Trump would win the nomination, I'd have bet them $100 in a heartbeat. No longer takin' that bet.

I don't think so... He might win but not run away. You will see the leftover support from the departed go to Cruz.

Cruz has a shot at Iowa, but if Trump wins Iowa, it is over. His lead in NH is huge and that isn't really the kind of state Cruz will challenge him in without a big bump from winning Iowa. Then it goes to SC and the SEC. If Trump wins both Iowa and NH, he'll get the poll bump and media coverage and sweep all those states including Texas. This election comes down to whether or not Cruz can pull it out in Iowa.

GOP leadership needs to get the also-ran candidates out of the field immediately so voters can coalesce around a more viable candidate.

Bingo.
Surely the GOP leadership knows the Democrats want Trump to be the nominee.....surely they do.....probably........maybe.....well they nominated John McCain and Mitt Romney so maybe they don't......they probably don't......they're clueless.

Such as?
All I hear or read around here is that the entire field of 17 candidates, the largest in our history, by a YUGE margin, all suck.
If ANY of these folks can't beat the cank, then the GOP may just be done on a national level. After this disaster of the past 7 years this election (like the last one) should be a laugher.
Who ya got?

Rubio 12 + Christie 4 + Bush 3 + Kasich 2 + Graham 0 + Pataki 0 = GOP Leadership 21
Still not even close. They need to compromise and coalesce around Cruz and follow his leadership or they get Trump.

You try to put Rubio into the GOP establishment, but he's never really been a part of that crowd. He's certainly not a "rank and file" member like say Lindsey Graham.
That isn't to say that they won't throw their support for him at some point considering the complete dumpster fire that is the establishment candidate field. They've gotta support someone I guess.

Well if anything is clear, it is that they aren't going to get what they want. That is crystal clear. I put Rubio in the establishment for Gang of 8, the neocon foreign policy, and the fact that he is getting the establishment and media endorsements right now. No, he isn't as bad as Graham, but he is at the top of their pecking order right now among the candidates polling in double digits.

Short of another 911 or a big time recession or an indictment, Hillary beats Trump or Cruz going away. And she'll take the Senate along. The best bet for the Republicans if Trump or Cruz is nominated is to concentrate their support on all of the sitting Congressmen in hopes of holding on to the House.

Disagree. Hillary has gone WAY left to fend off Sanders. This election is about turnout.

Yes, that is the Gang of 8. If it weren't for that miscalculation, Rubio would probably be a shoo in.
