RE: Well?
If he was staying he would have squashed the rumor.
We caught lightning in a bottle. Probably won't happen again but unless the guy is a buffoon he'll win with Fuente's players for a year or two before it starts to unravel and then it's too late.

Absolutely.
To clarify what he said in that clip, the reporter asked him if he'd like to comment on Pat Forde's article saying it was a done deal with Virginia Tech. He said no, I don't know Pat Forde. Then he said he'd say what he's always does and if an offer comes along that he has interest in then the look at his options. He then said he's focused on SMU and trying to win ballgames. He said the offer from Memphis is generous and is a tribute to the the university and the administrators and that he's honored to have received it. The reporter asked him if he talked to the players about his offer and he said no. He said he a private person. He was then asked about distractions and if he's worried about them. He said he's always worried about distractions no matter the source of the distraction.
That's pretty much it.

RE: Well?
Agreed. He looked uncomfortable. Could have and would have squashed rumors, if not true. Most important to have done some to a) drive focus of the team and b) communicate to recruiting class of '16. Hate losing him now. We needed 1 more class to solidify the ranks, depth.

Funny thing is, Cal could've left the same way. Different man, different plan.

This is why I bank more on Rudd & Bowen than a coach. Coaches come and go. They are either hired away or fired away. If we have the old nitwits in place then you know the result that had. Fired away or hired away. Which line are you in? Like Richard Pryor said "I'm gonna be in that long line!"

RE: Well?
I think the uncomfortable-ness perceived is not the appearance of being uncomfortable with discussing his future. I think he makes the point to talk about his privacy. As a private person myself, getting prodding questions into my life, my future, my choices, and what I have said or done is enough to make me uncomfortable, and I am sure it is for him. I choose not to make that some sort of hidden body language to suggest he's gone. It's a body language of a person who is not comfortable with people dipping into his pockets. Head Coaches don't have to be bastions of openness, and he's shown continuously he isn't. Hell, I think he looks uncomfortable most of the time he takes the podium for press conferences.
He's been honest there as he always has been. People thought when he said the same thing last year he would be gone. Grant it, the options this year are much better. But come on.
He doesn't look like he's gone to Virginia in his mind. I just think he's uncomfortable knowing that with all the rumors and everything else the questions will be attempting to dipping in his wells, and he doesn't like it.

RE: Well?
It's good for the program that we have a coach that's done so well that he's being hired away by a bigger program.
Been a very long time since that's happened. It means he was successful and in turn so was our program.
This is a good thing.
Another good thing is our QB won't be back because he's a first round NFL pick.

RE: Well?
If VT wins over UVA Saturday, they're bowl eligible. Would Beamer coach in the bowl game, leaving Fuente in limbo? Once his accepting the job is announced, he surely can't coach the bowl game, right?

RE: Well?
A) Why wouldn't Beamer coach in the bowl game???
B) I really think that Fuente can do better than VT and should have waited to see what other offers might have come his way, but best of luck to him

I believe it. I guess the bet is he won't coach the bowl game. Is that kinda the deal?
