ISIS/Daesh
Why exactly are countries and leaders calling ISIS, the name Daesh instead of ISIS?

Apparently, it is an insult, but shouldn't the world be more concerned with defeating ISIS instead of coming up with alternate labels so someone's feelings aren't hurt?

RE: ISIS/Daesh
I imagine it's easier to sell the "ISIS/ISIL isn't Islamic" talking point when you take the word "Islamic" out of their name.

It deligitmizes ISIS from organized religious institute and reaffirms rogue enemy. Semantics at best. Most Americans don't even know how to pronounce Daesh. I've only ever seen it in actual print in the NYT. Online now n then.

Good question, HOOD. I had been wondering that myself. I think Kronke has probably given a very accurate/concise explanation.

I wonder if the media will (in a like manner) refrain from using the word "Baptist" in reference to groups like the Westboro people. /sarcasm

On the same token, that does mean when any Christian group commit a heinous killing, I can dismiss the committers as not Christian, because after all Christ never taught kill your enemies.

As you said, I doubt the same sentiment will be extended to Christianity. Because the Westboro group certainly doesn't live out Jesus' teachings.

True, but Those same Scumbags are Not Beheading Children, Throwing Gays off of tall buildings nor setting Anyone on fire. Hell They don't even shoot up the place nor Stab folks or Run Them over with a car. Too bad the victims of Islamic Violence only had to deal with Wacko protesters instead.

Yep, all that and apparently the terrorist HATE that name which is reason enough for me to use the term "Daesh".

They can't keep anything straight. It's either ISIS or ISIL.

I'm not real interested in what they are called, and in truth neither are they.

The fact we are sitting here talking about it is proof we, as the West that is, aren't prepared to combat these people.
