ACC acknowledges Miami should not have beaten Duke on last-second play

Yeah didn't Duke play a near perfect game with only 5 penalties, also Sirk (sp?) didn't get in the endzone on that go ahead touchdown, the ball never crossed the goal line

Quote:After further review, it is determined that the final score of last night's game was Duke 27, Miami 24. The alleged touchdown awarded to Miami after the game ended was given to Miami in error, and is not recognized in the record books of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke's record on the season is 7-1. Miami's record on the season is 4-4.
Until some statement to that effect is forthcoming, the ACC has made itself a laughingstock with amateur/incompetent officiating at its games.
Of course if shoddy officiating can be used to remove points, the final score would be Miami 24, duke 19. Duke's last TD was aided by three bad pass interference calls on the previous drive.
Incorrect -- two of those PI calls were legit, IMHO. The last of the three, sure you can question -- but again, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However, if you're gonna inspect the final drive, did the ball cross the goal line when Sirk scored?

This is why a conference can't do day-after-the-game re-reviews. Because if you do that, you can't just review the officiating on one play, you have to go back and look at every questionable decision that potentially affected the outcome of the game. For that matter, given that Duke fans are griping about a non-call of blocking in the back on Miami's kick return, I guess you'd have to review every questionable non-call in the game as well as every questionable call. Good luck with that, conference office.

Quote:CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Miami has told season-ticket holders and donors that the Atlantic Coast Conference acknowledged "multiple incorrect calls" against the Hurricanes in last weekend's wild win over Duke, including an erroneous pass interference call on the drive where the Blue Devils scored a go-ahead touchdown.
The Hurricanes made the announcement in a letter sent from athletic director Blake James on Thursday.

That's exactly why I said thank goodness for the errors on the kickoff return. Miami got screwed on the previous drive.

Dan Wetzel pointed out - correctly - that if Duke is called down at the 1 inch line on the previous play (and they actually might have been - it's hard to tell if he really "broke the plane"), the game is probably over right there (Duke had no timeouts, and it was a running play with :06 remaining)
