At what point does the Sun Belt step in and do an intervention on GAST?
Georgia State football apologists (fans) have been certifiably delusional from the moment they conceived forcing a football program into the FBS. GAST has always been a division II program that just can't recognize itself in the mirror.
GSU fans have known this about GAST for a long time... and now the proof is hopefully obvious enough for outsiders to see. GAST was never going to be GSU, no matter what sort of front office shenanigans they may pull off. Georgia State's football program should do the Sunbelt and the state of Georgia a favor and Harakiri itself asap.
Why not divert those resources into something actually worth it, GAST basketball? That program is something to be proud of. Football isn't for everyone. GAST has proven that. Why would a Georgia State alum want to keep literally the worst FBS program in history on life support? It's sad.
Though, don't do it until after we take you behind the woodshed again this year.
Love to say I told you so. :)

The point where you tell your president to do so.

I see lots of well-reasoned thoughts to come in this thread. Bonus points for bringing up the GSU thing.

Was it a bad day for GSU? Yes but like I said on another thread every conference has some bottom dwellers. GSU, Idaho and NMSU are ours. I personally will cut GSU some slack because it's obvious that they have been poorly equipped to succeed and until Charlie Cobb gets off his a$$ and fixes this I put the blame for GSU's continued sorry play on the coaches. They have had enough time to build FBS depth and they have no excuse for not having this team ready to play Charlotte. The season is young and they could still pull it together but at this point that's more of a prayer than a promise.

WKU sucked for a long time and worked it out. GSU will do the same. Need a new coach though. It's a shame because I liked Miles when he was hired.

Give it a ******* rest. I like to rag on Georgia State as much as the next guy, but stop kicking them while they're down. I'm really going to laugh when they beat USA, Troy, NMSU, and Idaho.

ACC expansion and raiding of the Big East has really done damage to the Sun Belt by forcing teams up before they were ready. FAU and FIU a decade ago and now Georgia State can be added to the list of schools that were facing FBS schools too soon. FCS powers like Appalachian and Georgia Southern were able to make the adjustment much more easily, but they already had football cultures.
It might take a couple more years, but Georgia is rich in talent and I see no reason why people should think Georgia State will never be successful.

Douchiest thread of the year candidate.
Way to kick a fanbase while it's down.

True GaSt's football program is awful. Yes it's true no one goes to watch them. No, I wouldn't mind if they weren't in the conference, but they're our brothers now, and many of us have been there in the past, so let's cut them some slack. Their football program started in 2010. This is just their 2nd year playing a full FBS schedule. They did almost beat the Cajuns, USA, and NMSU last year, and almost beat us in 2013. Maybe a coaching change could turn things around.

Mods should move this to the snack talk section. That was just uncalled for.

Let's please remember what Ga State has contributed to this conference.... I remember people thanking them after their win over Baylor in the NCAA tourney.
They belong in our league. End. Of. story.

2 seasons is not really a long time compared to Georgia St's 5 so far..WKU also had success at the FCS level which Ga. St. did not have the luxury..Comparing this to WKU is laughable at best...

So out of the first three seasons you were FBS, which one did you think was a good one? We've been FBS for two seasons, and I think we were pretty terrible in both of them, but maybe I don't know how to judge.
Or maybe the phrase "laughable at best" just gets thrown around too easily these days.

Georgia State just moved to FBS before it was ready. The NCAA needs a rule that FCS schools have to post a 6 win season before they can move up. If you can't beat most FCS schools, do you belong in FBS? It's got to be painful for the players to lose almost every week and it hurts strength of schedule for opponents.

The only thing that hurts your strength of schedule is losing the games that you play. Every confrence has bottom teams the Sunbelts problem is that our teams wet the bed more often than not.
