I think it's more the in-state thing, but yeah -- there are obviously better places a HC would rather go to than Illinois if/when offered. I think he'd pick it over a Wake Forrest or a Colorado...

Quote:I honestly do not believe he would make that move. Indiana...different story.

Really? Indiana over Illinois in football program? Unless Indiana got a Randel El back, I cannot see him wanting to go to Indiana over Illinois!

Quote:No. He's a Bronco. If he wanted to be a Huskis he would be the head coach right now.

From what I heard (for what it's worth) he didn't get along so well with Doeren which helped him take another offer (not saying it was Doeren's fault; I have no clue on it all). But yes, he is a Bronco, but he does have some Huskie blood in him of course. However, what better what to show loyalty to NIU after leaving NIU as future OC and to end up bouncing over to another MAC West team, than to take over at Illinois? :) It's not like you guys would like him any better if he took over Southern Miss or something.

He won't be going to Illinois unless Cubit does surprisingly well to keep the team together to manage a winning record and there's no real good HC opps available for Illinois to grab. PJ's only leaving at the end of next year if/when we go 9 or 10+ wins.

Todd, he would choose Indiana over Illinois because that's his alma mater.

He played on the o-line for IU

During WSCR's show transition from B and B to the L. Holmes show, Holmes was beating the Illinois-call-Frazier drum pretty hard. I have a bad feeling we are going to lose Frazier to the Declini. Obviously we are going to lose him some time, but to have it to be to such a failing in-state program would be especially hard to take. Overall Bernstein/Rozner/Holmes were complimentary of NIU during the segment, and said Illinois needs to study how NIU makes hiring decisions so they can implement them at U of I. The transition even ended with 3 Bill Baker Toledo sound bytes haha.

I heard this as well. First they have to fire the mike Thomas. So Frazier should last through the football season and hire rod's replacement

#1 Gary Pinkel (Missouri) (winningest coach in UT history)
#2 Nick Sabin (Alabama) (10 & 2 record) inherited Laturbeur players
#3 Matt Campbell (current coach)
#4 Frank Laturbeur (retired from UT) and tied Tom Anstutz (both had winning overall records)
#5 Tim Beckman (had an overall winning record & very talented players, but sucked at clock management.....I thought you NIU fans would like that?

That is about four decades of coaches........

Saban did not inherit Lauterbur's players. There were three coaches and almost two decades between Lauterbur and Saban - Jack Murphy, Chuck Stobart, and Dan Simrell.

Also Frank X. did not retire from UT. He left for Iowa, where he was fired after three years (4-28-1).

For a Rocket fan your knowledge (and spelling of coaches' names) is shaky.

Illinois actually has bigger issues to deal with than replacing an AD as they are without a CHancellor and a Provost, plus the President of the University is new, having been hired only 3 months ago (May). Have to believe that the academic positions will be filled before the University looks for a new AD.

Also, Fraizer is the AD and the associate vice president. I'm not sure what the means in regards to his pay scale, but that nice little extra title is something a lot of P5 programs would be reluctant to give to SF. We shall see.

IIRC both Phillips and Compher were also Associate Vice President and Athletic Director, so not sure it's any different for Frazier.

I will say though that Baker and Frazier seem to work very well together.

I see no reason why Frazier would go to UofI when he is the next obvious AD for Wisconsin. With Frazier having little ones I expect that he will want to move around as little as possiable for the next several years.

He's in an ideal situation when it comes the administration structure of NIU compared to U of I.

Dr. Baker is a strong President and administrator who understands that having a strong athletic program is beneficial to the university in many ways. But, he also realizes that he's not an expert on athletics, so he hired a heavyweight to be athletic director. He still has authority over Baker given the administration structure, but from what we've seen it sounds like he lets Frazier steer the ship however he feels fit.

As has been stated, U of I really doesn't have a functioning administrative structure at this time, so whoever becomes AD will be walking into a potential minefield.
