We are talking about a government that will fine a 6 year old for running a lemonade stand without batting an eye.

RE: why do you pay taxes?
the ultimate point of this exercise is to define how can change be expected from the voting populous, if change isn't made starting within the voter base....

I could live with a flat payroll tax, but prefer a consumption tax....both have their pluses and minuses....

regardless, the current system is a total cluster-fk and I am finally in a position to take a stance

the fact that reforming the tax system currently in place was barely discussed in the first debate is distressing at best.....

i will willingly pay tax for any school in my district/county. i will willingly pay tax for road maintenance. i will willingly pay tax to preserve the arts. i'm not well versed in what else i can/contribute money too locally and i should be because the only politics that should matter to people are the ones that directly affect them. it's local. the more we keep things local, the better the world will be. probably a different thread

I get you....we pay 2% more (7% sales in missippy) in hattiesburg for all purchases that are nicotine, alcohol, hotel, restaurant related....has helped, yet we still need more for infrastructural improvements....

but yeah, it's a different thread topic, but is applicable to how money is received and how it's dispensed....

I have no problem paying for infrastructure, public safety and health bureaucracies, national security and even a welfare state for those truly unable to take care of themselves. That is about it.
