Because if I don't, they'll send heavily armed people to have a word with me. If I tell them to get lost, they'll come back with more people even more heavily armed. If I fight, they'll shoot first and ask questions later. Either way at the end they'll take possession of everything I own until they get their theft quota.
They'll then take the money they've stolen from me and use it to subsidize large multinational corporations, kill brown people in countries I'll never see who present no real threat to the country, and give it away to "poor" people to buy votes, some of whom refuse to work and will simply live off the theft of me until they die.
If I ever buckle under the weight of such theft, they'll remind me how it's such a bargain that the social safety net was there for me to be reimbursed pennies on the dollar, and that how I'm lucky that I can go work now for the multinational corporation that was subsidized by my dollars.
Do or do not, there is no why.

Because if I don't I won't be here for my wife and son. I've often wondered what it would be like if I just refused but you really can't unless you're self employed.
