Just curious how quickly (if at all) the higher profile for the program might translate into more interest from some blue chippers who weren't paying attention before.
I'd like to see them hold out for maybe another impact transfer. I have to think UC is going to start developing a good reputation with transfers with the way Washington has played this year and with what we will likely get from Broome next year.

I agree. Or, we can bank it. Assuming no defections, we have a great core returning and a few - Williams and Broome in particular - poised to step right in and contribute. It's a luxury having our depth, and a scholarship to give. Save that baby for someone unexpected.....

It would not shock me if they do not fill the last scholly. If we only lose Johnson and TC next year, this team likely would only list some added depth at pg as a "need". If you have a real stud at any position i suppose you look at it, but given the history he is usually into leaving one for a rainy day, particularly given that we're now using almost the entire roster which is a luxury and to a certain extent proof you've recruited pretty well.

RE: BB Class of 2017
What's our 2017 scholly situation?
http://www.zagsblog.com/2017/03/21/clift...s-indiana/
Quote:Clifton Moore, Al Durham Request Releases from Indiana
Clifton Moore and Al Durham have both requested their releases from Indiana following last week’s firing of Tom Crean.
Durham is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Lilburn (GA) Berkmar and Moore is a 6-10 small forward from Hatboro-Horsham (Pa.).
“Clif requested [his] release and has not been released yet,” said his father, Cliff Moore Sr. “He will be open for recruitment from Indiana and other schools.”
Moore, whose stock exploded this summer at the Elevate Hoops events in Philadelphia and Ardsley, N.Y., also considered Ole Miss, Lafayette, Temple, St. Joe’s and Northwestern the first time around.
This time, a slew of schools are expected to be in the mix, including Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Minnesota, Villanova, Ole Miss, Delaware, Lafayette, La Salle, Temple, St. Joe’s, Penn State and Kansas State.
Durham initially chose Indiana over Clemson, South Florida, Georgia. Louisiana Tech, Cincinnati, Arizona, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Rhode Island and Virginia Tech.
Durham’s father, Al Durham Sr., told Alex Bozich, “Indiana is still an option. The new coach would have to recruit him.”
Indiana’s third Class of 2017 pledge, Justin Smith, has yet to comment on his future plans.
Meantime, as reported by ZAGSBLOG last week, uncommitted 2017 wing Jordan Tucker is no longer considering Indiana and is now weighing Villanova, Oregon and Georgia Tech.

If everybody stays and with currently three incoming freshmen we would be at 12
scholarships so we would have one available. That assumes that Jackson Bart is just a walk-on.

Granted a release because of a coaching change would Durham have immediate eligibility when transferring?

Unless the rule has changed if he signed a letter of intent he would need to sit out a year. However in my opinion we are in good shape at the guard position. Also I think incoming Keith Williams was higher rated than Durham. I would think we would keep open the last slot for front court talent to replace Washington and Clark after next season.

As long as the school releases the kid from his LOI (almost all the time) he is eligible immediately.

I don't know enough about this kid but we're losing two guards and adding three. If he's a great talent you take him. If not there's value to leaving the final scholarship open in case a transfer becomes available.

Speaking of transfers, when do we find out who the highly sought after 5th year transfers are? Is there a list out there somewhere?

http://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2017
they will update this list whenever someone else transfers. if you scroll down you can sort it by stars out of HS, position and eligible immediately.
very slim to none odds Mick takes a 5th year though. this year or really ever

I've wondered same thing....great tradition, great conference(s), seems like every time I see a game on tv there are 18k there so they have full support in a major metro/pro town. I don't get it. I fact when Creane left them for IU I thought, wow, I think I would have stayed. You can win a national title at Marquette, and going to IU seems like tough assignment with expectations through the roof. IU is a blue blood, but at the pace they are on, it won't be long now that they will be a blue blood in name only because they haven't really been 'blue blood-like' since Knight was their save for a year or two here and there.

Chase Jeter, a 6'10 power forward at Duke, is transferring. He will have to sit out a year.
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...ext-season
Chase is Derek Jeter's cousin. IIRC, isn't SK related to Jeter as well (I remember him posing for pics with the Yankee HOF'er when he first arrived to Brooklyn). Maybe SK can help out with this, Jeter could replace KW after next season.

A player his size would be a perfect fit for us in two years. We are pretty well set at the guard and wing positions. However he indicates he wishes to transfer closer to home which is Las Vegas.

It looks like we're going after Mamoudou Diarra again after his decommitment from Washington

Since reopening his recruitment, Mamoudou Diarra has heard from Mizzou, Wichita St, SMU, Cincinnati, Mississippi St, & NC State, per source.

I suspect Mizzou will be the team to beat, given that's his home state and where Washington's coach ended up.
