Too Cal-centric. California doesn't belong on that list, and doubtful Stanford does.

Oregon does. Possibly Arizona.

I'd even put UW over Cal

Stanford is probably the most powerful program in the PAC 12. You could make a case for them at 1. They definitely belong in the top four.

When NYC/Bloomberg opened up Roosevelt Island for a new University, Stanford came in #2. Cornell won the bid. Stanford's endowment is about 22 Billion.

Stanford faculty and alumni have founded many companies including Google, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Sun Microsystems, and Yahoo!, and companies founded by Stanford alumni generate more than $2.7 trillion in annual revenue, equivalent to the 10th-largest economy in the world.

So rankings have taken a turn from AD value, TV value, FB program value, and now how powerful your alumni are. Pretty safe to say it all just boils down to what criteria you want to use.

So now the challenge is to find a criteria where Washington State, Purdue, and Wake Forest make the top of their respective conferences.

Stanford.
It has gained 107 NCAA team championships, the second-most for a university, 465 individual championships, the most in Division I,[27] and has won the NACDA Directors' Cup, recognizing the university with the best overall athletic team achievement, every year since 1994-1995.[28]

Texas Tech is top 30 in football revenue, attendance and merchandise sales.

Texas Tech is a national brand and we are top 4 in the Big 12. I like Kansas and hope they eventually get a Big 10 invite but basketball means very little in realignment discussions. That is why they were headed to the Big East had the Texoma 4 left.

Bunch of championships in meaning less sports that most schools don't play with a large number of women championships. Rowing, Fencing, etc are nice championships but not the same as other sports. Stanford has had a really nice run in FB so I could see them up the just for that.

To be fair OSU is near the top of the list for overall championships but ancient BB championships and wrestling championships aren't that important either IMO.

RE: Name YOUR conference's 4 Most Valuable Programs
One way to identify the four most valuable athletic programs in each conference would be to look at the top four athletic budgets. According to USA Today in 2014 these would be the four in C-USA, but I suspect Rice would make the list and drop Middle Tennessee off.

ODU $41,118,876
North Texas $31,617,094
UAB $31,549,517
- it amazes me that with this much money, they were struggling to keep football
MTSU $30,410,530

Rice $NA

Charlotte $29,591,208
Marshall $28,707,091
UTEP $28,645,661
FIU $28,104,062
WKU $27,716,031
UTSA $26,937,994
FAU $24,352,818
Southern Miss $23,536,254
LA Tech $19,277,701

In a sense, yes. Those details provided help explain why everyone in the PAC 12 shows deference to Stanford: they want to associate with them. They are pretty much the North Carolina of the PAC 12 for various reasons.

That's what happens when a mentally ill person becomes a university president.

The Board has also spent $11 million in PR and lobbying to kill football, fight #FreeUAB in the state legislature and cover up their involvement on top of that budget (that's by their own admission, see the June 1st press conference) so if you add that amount then We're Number One!!!!

Cheers,
Neil

I think value also has to include a schools ability to bind others to the conference as well as their football/basketball prowess, plus their political power behind the scenes.

In the ACC

1. UNC - hands down as they bind NC State, Duke, WF, and UVa in the conference
2. FSU - the bring the sexy football image that some love and some hate
3. Duke - the team that everyone across the nation loves to hate and watches hoping they lose - they also have political power behind the scences
4. VT - they saved football when it was bad and have a unique geophysical footprint with media in Maryland, DC, VA, NC, and West Va.
5. A jumble at 5 - Clemson is the traditional football school in the conference, WF is the traditional peacemaker and deal maker in the conference, Syracuse give the league entry to NYC, and of course ND even if they only play 5 football games.

The ACC could lose FSU, Duke, VT, Clemson, WF, Syracuse, or ND and keep right on going - though the FSU and Duke loss would be a big hit. Take away UNC and you take away the core of the conferences' reason for being.
