NNMC is not the lone NAIA school in the state, if that's what you meant. There is also University of the Southwest in Hobbs.

But as far as football, this article is just a tease. It doesn't appear to be in anyone's plans at the moment. Let them build dormitories and a dining hall first that can accommodate all the sports they want, THEN let's talk about football.

That only leaves them, Snow, Central Arizona, Arizona Western and Eastern Arizona with 5 football schools. There are hints that Navajo Tech could be joining the NAIA. They are also a New Mexico school. They are ramping up their sports. Dine in Arizona could join the NAIA as well. NMMI could actually be good for NAIA. There could be a new conference in the future for the NAIA Arizona schools, Snow College who hinted that they could go 4 years in the state of Utah. Plus the last three Arizona NJCAA football schools. Seems the last three are offering bachelor degrees in certain fields like RNs which their communities really need a school like that.

There are already several posts which explain why everything stated here is wrong.

It would be good to see Bellarmine add football, so have there been any updates since that March 21, 2016 article?

The last news I saw out of them were they added some sports when they brought in student athletes from another school that closed down. It was St. Catharine of Kentucky. That was June of 2016. They are at a holding pattern before the new sports would work out at the school. That school that closed was a Catholic.

Yes, Bellarmine added 1 sport in June 2016 when they absorbed the Saint Catharine College wrestling team. That event just fell into their lap and is completely unrelated to this article. Adding wrestling could have delayed the addition of football depending on their standing with Title IX. Schools don't add sports then wait to see if they work out; if that's the process then the school shouldn't have athletics at all.

RE: Colleges And Universities That Added Or Dropped Their Football teams
Bellarmine has the same number of men's and women's sports (11, as they have both indoor and outdoor track). Participation and scholarships could be slightly out of balance as lacrosse is only on the men's side, and of course that is Division I, but I have no idea if all sports have their full scholarship allotment. If they have to add anything, I'd expect it to be women's lacrosse (which if the school wanted, I'm sure could seek a waiver to join the men's team in Division I, and award an extra 2.1 scholarships) and/or rowing (20 scholarships, the same limit as Division I).

What could be an issue is that Bellarmine's undergraduate enrollment is 64% female (the graduate enrollment is even more lopsided). Adding football has to pay off pretty much immediately in terms of increasing and balancing enrollment. Then again, there are avenues for compliance besides proportionality.

Their plans were they would add women's LAX. If they can't get a waiver? They could move all sports to D1. They could be getting looks from OVC or Horizon.

Judson University of Elgin, IL is adding football. Judson is in the NAIA and would presumably join the Mid States Football Association. They will start organizing in 2019 and play on official schedule in 2021. Coaches are mostly from the high school ranks.

I wonder where they will play. Unless they make the soccer field dual-purpose, no room on campus.

I don't know, but it looks to me like they have plenty of room to make Dawson Field dual purpose.

That's the soccer field I was referring to - basically just a field.

Next time I am at my sister's (Judson is right off the route between my sister's and my Mom's) I will have to drive back there and look.

1200 students. They don't need a stadium.

Looks like St Edwards High School and Elgin High School both have decent facilities. No doubt that are unused on Saturdays.

St. Ed's gained national attention a few years ago when their landscaping crew accidentally put weed killer in their fertilizing and destroyed their football field.
