The cherry trees will go down in uab lore one day. So bizarre. As for all this defeatism, snap out of it! Do not despair. It's a long fight and we will be on the winning side when all is said and done.

Have we confirmed that the Cherry Trees are a real thing and not just a photoshop prank?

The SGA and NAS need to pimp-slap that and call for a rejection of that donation on the grounds that it will seed trouble on campus as obvious targets for vandalism and protest.

We raise money, it doesn't count. Our donors are lied too and played for fools. The faculty senate votes no confidence, it's ignored. The Alumni Association, almost every municipality and media outlet in the area comes out in support, that's ignored too. The university's vice presidents are supposedly ready to revolt and if twitter is to be believed Watts was even told by a trustee that he should resign, and what happens? Nothing.

So, what are our options? Really, I'd like to know.

Well, this thing HAS been labeled as a hate crime. That might mean there are some NAACP people ready to come in and

We keep bringing in pledges. If it $25.00 a year or $25,000. You write another round if letters to the VPs, the Trustees, and administration. You answer the bell when we say do it it's serious.

If you are not doing one or more of those things you are not doing enough.

I think the point is what can be done after next Monday when Ray announces football isn't coming back? I live in a district where my legislator supports Jabo and Williams' legislation. I've signed a very significant pledge for the athletics program and promised the School of Business I'd match it with academic donations if the programs are returned and UAB is allowed to run its own affairs. There's no other levers that I can pull.

As long as Ray Watts is president, football isn't coming back. And as long as Paul Bryant Jr, Joe Espy, and Finis St. John have influence on the board, they will never hire a president to overturn Watts' decision. It is literally going to take a generational change for there to be a chance.

It is if this generation rolls over and quits.

Waiting the bastards out is one of the things on the list of things to do.

I've told more than one person, to paraphrase David Housel, UAB football will be back, but a couple of high-profile funerals might have to take place first.

I sent a new email to the VPs as well as an email to Kahn and president@uab.edu to confirm receipt of my pledge form. Fingers crossed.
