You do not seem to be aware that since C-USA's formation of a geographically-sensible, 12-school, all-sports conference comprised of a blend of institutions having class, tradition, academic excellence, large markets and championship potential in many sports, I no longer worry about the Big East.

That doesn't help travel that much at all.
Actually, to be precise, it's about 190 miles......and a pretty quick drive, FTR....
Don't worry, unlike UCiF, the Pirates have earned their respect on the field and are on their way back. They also have a long history of meaningful victories and bowl games. UCiF's first bowl game victory will be their first.
Besides....ECU country has great BBQ.
Yea, USF's "ONE" bowl victory is clearly a stamp of tradition and pride. I guess we won't talk about the OTHER apperance (or lack of) USF made, getting embarassed on TV. Luckilly, nobody watched so it's not TOO bad.
Apparently the football teams' drugs are being passed around nicely at USF these days.

If that is true about C-DOA, what conference did Memphis State join?
BTW....if you "no longer worry about the BigEast" why are you soiling our boards?

By bringing them in together you create a travel partner for the non revenue sports thus decreasing travel cost for the non revenue sports.
Every been to NC?
Guess not...its a pretty WIDE state...and did you know that Charlotte and Greenville have about 250 miles of roads between them?

Wonder if there is another State that has a possible expansion candidate that is CLOSE to another Big East School...and who already plays Div I-A Football..and just built a new football stadium and basketball arena this year?
I know...maybe Orlando (Top 20 TV Market in the USA) has UCF...and Orlando is only about 83 miles away from Tampa.
FWIW, I stand by my earlier prediction that in 2010 the BEFB schools will split with ND as a member in everything but FB, add UCF and have 9 FB and 10 BB members. There will be 8 conference FB games and ND will play 3 or 4 opponents annually. There will be 18 conference BB games with everyone getting a home and home each season.
9+1 is the outcome I am putting my money on.

Have to thing if they split, the BE will be looking at a football title game to queeze more cash from ESPN. ECU, UCF, Memphis, and Temple has the right facilities and markets right now. Southern Miss and Marshall might be added due to politics.

Thats much more realistic than what you normally see on the Big East board.

Knight... Have you ever driven from Greenville (NC) to Memphis? Greenville to Charlotte takes less time.
It's been a while since I drove from Greenville to Charlotte. I think it is a 3 hour drive. Maybe its four hours... (45 minutes from Greenville to Raleigh. An hour from Raleigh to Greensboro. Another hour from Greensboro to Charlotte. I could be wrong.)

The factors that will impact conference shakeups will be greed. The Big Ten might try to get another piece to get the kind of money like the SEC, ACC, and BE received in recent contracts. I see Big Ten making a play at Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame.
Big Ten East
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Penn State
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Big Ten West
Notre Dame

Iowa
Illinois
Wisconsin

The Big 10 has tried to get Notre Dame for the last 100 years. ND is not interested. The reason the conference is not at 12 teams is because they have had a sitting offer on the table for ND to join.
I don't think Syracuse is a team that the Big 10 would be interested in. Pittsburgh is a city school so I don't think they'd be interested in them either (all schools but Northwestern are big state schools). If they added anybody besides ND it would be Missouri.

i doubt missouri leaves the big 12 as it is today. if UT and A&M split off somehow, then maybe Missouri leaves. Maybe.
They would be leaving their biggest rival in KU, not to mention a lot of history with nebraska, oklahoma, colorado, and iowa state.
Ive always thought that iowa state would fit well in the big 10. they've always been an outlier in the big 8(XII), and their biggest rival is already in the big 10(iowa). of course, i doubt they are a big enough money maker to be wanted by the big 10. its a moot point, i guess.

If there is another shake up, I think it would be from the Big XII splitting up...IMO, the championship game hasn't been as successful as the SEC championship game...Texas and Nebraska don't really seem friendly towards each other, and Texas and OU don't seem to like the championship game

the main problem is the UT and A&M see themselves as national and international universites academically. which they are. the conference they are in has, in their minds, inferior universities. they specifically point out ok state, nebraska, kansas state, and iowa state. this will never changes in longhorn and aggie minds.
not to go back to far in the past, but back when the swc was breaking up, the pac 10 really wanted texas. UT was somewhat interested due to the high profile academic institutions in the pac 10. however, a&m wasnt in the mix so the texas legislature wouldnt have approved it if it came to fruition.
in the next decade, the big XII(as we know it) will not exist. UT, a&m, and maybe oklahoma will split off from the rest of the big 12. they could start a super conference with some other schools from the big 12(KU, colorado, Missouri) and the sec(arkansas, lsu?), or texas and A&M could go to the pac 10, or they both could go as independents. those are just possiblities. not saying either will happen, only that something will happen and soon.
